The surgical therapies team works across a wide range of specialities surgeries including upper and lower gastrointestinal, vascular (including amputations), ENT, oral maxillofacial, plastics, urology, gynaecology and specialised breast care. We cover 11 wards including a 14-bedded Surgical Special Care Unit providing both respiratory and rehabilitative post-operative care. The successful applicant will be static to the area and will be able to develop specialised knowledge and skills in specific surgical areas as stated above.
Therapy Services work within a 7 day shift system therefore the post holder will be required to work as part of the weekend and bank holiday rotas.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an enthusiastic Senior Therapy Technical Instructor to join the Therapies team at the University Hospital of North Midlands. As a static senior therapy technician, the successful candidate will be expected to support band 3 therapy technicians as well as students and apprenticeship staff. Support and training for this role will be provided by the Advanced and Senior Therapists within the surgical team.
The post will involve working with Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, and other technicians within a dynamic team. It will be expected that the successful candidate can manage a caseload with the support of their team, to provide assessments, deliver rehabilitative care, and support and manage discharge planning. You will also be responsible for identifying and completing onward referrals throughout our patient's rehabilitative pathway.
There are new and exciting areas of development within the surgical team for successful applicants to further their skills and knowledge, including within head and neck surgery, cognitive and functional assessments.
As a static member of the team there will be opportunities for professional and personal progression to develop clinical, educational, and leadership skills, as well as having opportunities to support qualified staff with service development and audits to better our patients' experience and rehabilitation through therapy input.
