Job summary
Renal Vascular Access Nurse Specialist
To work with the Vascular Access Lead, medical, surgical and nursing team in providing expert advice and support for renal patients within the trust.
Facilitate the planning and delivery of vascular access care.
To work flexibly with or alongside Vascular Access Lead, Renal Consultants, Vascular Consultants, Consultant Radiologist and other teams.
Main duties of the job
Renal Vascular Access Nurse Specialist provide a structured and multidisciplinary approach in preparing patients with advanced CKD (stages 4-5) to start haemodialysis, promoting self-management, optimizing care, supporting informed decision-making regarding vascular access options, providing expert advice and teaching patients/carers on AV Fistulae care, post operative care and monitoring using ultrasound, managing complications, referring for surgical or radiological intervention, consenting for radiological intervention and making reasonable decision to start haemodialysis using AV Fistulae.

We see on average 4810 OP appointments a day. We are the 4th busiest Trauma & Orthopaedic outpatients department in England - an average of 2077 per week. An average of 1115 patients are seen in A&Es across our network every day - 3rd largest in the country. Our hospitals admit an average of 195 emergency patients daily. Last year we undertook almost 33,700 planned surgical operations in our 57 operating theatres. We are one of only 7 Trusts nationally with more than 50 operating theatres. We carry out more than 140 elective procedures each working day.
