Current Department of Army Civilian Employees Applying on Time-Limited Assignments In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience includes: 1) Providing assistance to pilots with in-flight emergencies; 2) Operating certified tower display workstations to ensure proper control of air traffic; 3) Performing Tower and Airport Information Center (AIC) Flight Following controller duties; 4) Disseminating weather warnings, advisories, and other significant meteorological Information to properly advise pilots; 5) Issuing Air Traffic Control clearances and instructions to provide the required separation and sequencing of all traffic. This is experience at the next lower grade level in the Federal Service (GS-10). In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also be a graduate of a DoD component or FAA approved formal Air Traffic Controller school and possess Air Traffic Control Specialist (ATCS) and/or Control Tower Operator (CTO) certification. Selective Placement Factor:ATC Certificates: Air Traffic Control Specialist (ACTS) certification; Control Tower Operator (CTO) certification and/or Air Traffic Safety Oversight Service (AOV) Tower Rating. NOTE: If your application package does not contain proof of having these certificates, your application will be marked as incomplete and you WILL NOT receive consideration for this position. MAXIMUM ENTRY AGE: Employees hired for the first time ("originally Hired") into GS-2152 positions must not exceed the established Maximum Entry Age (MEA) at the time of appointment. The MEA For an AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER (ATC) is 36. An employee originally hired into a covered ATC position must be hired by the last day of the month, he/she reaches 36 unless a waiver from Department of Army is approved prior to appointment. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Attention to Detail Customer Service Decision Making Flexibility Integrity/Honesty Interpersonal Skills Learning Reasoning Self-Management Stress Tolerance Teamwork Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-10).

Major DutiesServe as controller-in-charge over small to medium group of air traffic controllers.Regulate activities as necessary to ensure a safe and expeditious flow of traffic.Provide approved separation between aircraft operating on the runway movement areas and helipads/rotor wing landing areas.Responsible for sequencing, spacing, and issuing clearance and control instructions to aircraft operating in Class D airspace.Receive, posts, and relays flight data information.Issue range status information, drop zone/paradrop status information, safety advisories, and hazards to flight such as unlighted obstructions, control burn areas etc.Provide flight following to aircraft operating within Special Use Airspace (SUA)/Restricted Areas and surrounding airspace; Issues inflight advisory information to arriving, departing, and en-route aircraft.
