Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in : Reviewing legal case files to identify inconsistencies, processing case-related documentation for clients involved in the judicial system and researching legal topics for attorneys such as court decisions, rulings and/or other legal materials. OR Education Substitution for Specialized Experience: Successful completion of a Master's or equivalent graduate degree, OR two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B or J.D in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as Paralegal Studies or Legal Studies.(NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts). OR Combination of Education and Experience: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.(NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts). Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).

Major DutiesAbility to summarize complex legal, statistical, and research-based materials into clear, well-organized written products for use in the preparation of correspondence across multiple legal subject areas.Ability to analyze factual information, determine relevant issues, and draft clear, logical written legal analysis and supporting documentation in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and guidance.Ability to perform research and analytical review on a wide range of legal subjects, including labor relations, equal employment opportunity, personnel, ethics, healthcare law, and administrative law, in support of attorney-directed assignments.Ability to evaluate research materials, determine pertinent facts, interpret findings, and prepare initial summaries and recommendations regarding data relevance and appropriate legal courses of action.Ability to assess the potential for claims against the government prior to record release and, when potential claims are identified, to coordinate the disclosure of information in accordance with agency policies.Ability to examine legal documents and requests to determine administrative compliance with agency regulations, federal statutes, and applicable state laws governing claims against the government.
