Job summary
A Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) is required at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN) to work in specialist neurology services in a predominantly outpatient settings. The post is offered as a 2-year fixed term contract at 0.6 WTE (22.5 hours per week). The post-holder will work with people presenting with a wide range of neurological conditions but will include those with ataxia, facial impairment and neuromuscular conditions. The work could include MDT clinics, 1:1 assessment and intervention, and groups.

The SLT service has a very high profile within the multidisciplinary team of services provided.

Person Specification
Knowledge & Qualifications Essential
Degree in Speech and Language Therapy HPC Licence to practice as SLT Registered member of RCSLT Member of Neurological CEN Successful completion of highly specialist post-graduate study relevant to communication (e.g., dysarthria, dyspraxia, dementia) and swallowing disorders (accredited dysphagia course) at MSc level or equivalent Basic counselling Training in SLT student clinical supervision

Minimum of 3 years' experience in a relevant field post-registration, including 1 year at a specialist level Of working at a specialist level within adult neurology/ older people's services/ Mental Health Care of Older People / dysphagia Of delivering and evaluating training to a range of audiences Of supervising SLT students Making accurate assessment of motor speech disorders Acquiring and interpreting videofluoroscopic swallowing assessment images
