Job summary
As the Governance and Assurance Lead you will be a key part of the management team responsible for ensuring good practice is adhered to when it comes to governance, safeguarding and health & safety. You will provide guidance and recommendations to staff where necessary, as well as organising any relevant training where appropriate. You will work closely with senior management, providing regular updates and highlighting any potential risks or concerns that will need to be addressed.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting governance, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance across a portfolio of services. This includes ensuring governance arrangements operate in line with organisational expectations and regulatory requirements, overseeing audit evidence submissions, supporting operational teams with service improvement activities, and preparing governance and quality reports for senior management. The role will contribute to the continuous improvement of governance systems, support the implementation of organisational policies, and ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards, and best practice. The postholder will actively participate in company-wide steering groups relating to governance, safeguarding, and health and safety, review incidents and complaints to ensure policy compliance, conduct investigations where required, and support services to implement corrective actions. In addition, the role will promote a positive health and safety culture by providing guidance and training, undertaking risk assessments, carrying out site inspections, and ensuring that health and safety policies, procedures, and documentation are effectively maintained and implemented.

Job description Job responsibilities
As the Governance and Assurance Lead, you will play a key role within the management team, ensuring that robust governance, safeguarding, quality assurance, and health and safety practices are embedded across the organisation. You will support services within your remit to ensure governance arrangements operate in line with organisational expectations and regulatory requirements, including CQC standards, while providing expert guidance, recommendations, and training to staff to promote compliance and continuous improvement. Working closely with senior leaders, you will monitor governance performance, oversee audit programmes and evidence submissions, analyse incidents and complaints, conduct investigations where required, and support the implementation of corrective actions to enhance service quality and regulatory compliance. You will prepare and present reports on governance, quality assurance activities, audit findings, and risk management, highlighting areas of concern and recommending improvements. The role will also involve contributing to the development and enhancement of governance systems, supporting the implementation of organisational policies and best practice, participating in company-wide governance, safeguarding, and health and safety steering groups, and promoting a positive health and safety culture through training, risk assessments, site inspections, and assurance activities to ensure policies, procedures, and documentation remain effective, compliant, and up to date.
Person Specification
Experience Essential
Understanding and experience of regulatory compliance in a CQC regulated setting.
Desirable
Experience working in a health promotion setting. Experience in a leadership role.
Job Specific Requirements Essential
Full Uk driving licence The ability to travel independently across an agreed geographical area (dependent on home location) and as required to ABL Health HQ in Greater Manchester. Work flexibly and adapt to suit service need. Please note: We do not offer Sponsorship
Qualifications Essential
Minimum of 2 years working in a healthcare related role. A mature understanding of Governance systems in a health or social care setting.
Desirable
IOSH or NEBOSH Qualified. Safeguarding Level 4 (Designated Safeguarding Officer) Safeguarding supervision (There will be the opportunity to gain these qualifications if you do not hold them.)
