Job summary

We are looking for a salaried GP working 4 sessions per week, to join our team at Shevington Surgery.

Working days to be agreed but must include a Tuesday.

The postholder will work as an autonomous practitioner, responsible for the provision of medical services to the practice population, delivering an excellent standard of clinical care while complying with the contract.

Furthermore, the post-holder will adhere to the GMC standards for good medical practice, contributing to the effective management of the practice, leading by example, maintaining a positive, collaborative working relationship with the multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

Provide high-quality, safe and evidence-based medical care to the Practice population, delivering services in line with contractual requirements, professional standards and clinical guidance. Assess, diagnose, treat and appropriately refer patients, considering physical, psychological and social needs, while managing acute, chronic and complex conditions. Prescribe safely and cost-effectively in accordance with local and national guidance, undertake medication reviews, support health promotion and self-care, and contribute to proactive and anticipatory care.

Maintain accurate, contemporaneous clinical records and complete all associated administrative duties, including referrals, correspondence, results, reports, and prescription requests in a timely manner. Work collaboratively with Practice, PCN and colleagues, contributing to workload, service delivery and team effectiveness.

Support quality improvement, clinical governance, patient safety, audit, and other contractual requirements, taking delegated responsibility for specific areas where required. Attend and contribute to Practice meetings, and support the ongoing development and sustainability of the Practice.

Comply with all relevant legislation, GMC requirements, safeguarding responsibilities, professional standards and Practice policies. Maintain a valid licence to practise. Undertake any other duties reasonably required by the Practice, commensurate with the role and service needs.

Our team includes 7 partners (6 GPs, 1 Advanced Practitioner), a Clinical Pharmacist, Advanced Practitioner, Physician Associates and a Nursing and Administrative team. We also work with the wider PCN staff including First Contact Physiotherapists, Paramedic, GPAs, Nurse, Pharmacists, Link Workers, Mental Health Practitioners and Social Prescribers.

Job description Job responsibilities Job Purpose

The Salaried GP will provide high-quality, safe, and effective medical care to the registered patient population, working in accordance with GMC standards, NHS contractual requirements, and Practice policies. The post holder will contribute to the delivery of comprehensive primary care services and support the ongoing development of the Practice.

Clinical Responsibilities

Deliver safe, evidence-based, and high-quality clinical care, maintaining professional standards at all times.

Assess, diagnose, and manage patient needs considering physical, psychological, and social factors.

Provide appropriate treatment and ensure timely referral to secondary care or other services in line with local and national guidelines.

Manage acute presentations, complex cases, and emergencies, initiating appropriate urgent care when required.

Manage long-term conditions in line with best practice and agreed care pathways.

Support health promotion, prevention, and patient self-management strategies.

Review, prescribe, and manage medications safely, cost-effectively, and in line with NICE guidance and local formulary.

Support anticipatory care planning and proactive patient management.

Administrative Responsibilities

Complete all clinical documentation accurately and contemporaneously.

Manage all associated administrative tasks arising from clinical work, including referrals, correspondence, results, prescriptions, reports, and forms.

Ensure all work is completed in a timely and professional manner.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic patient records in line with legal, professional, and Practice standards.

Quality, Safety & Governance

Work in accordance with clinical guidelines, audit findings, and governance processes.

Contribute to quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and continuous service development.

Take delegated responsibility for clinical, operational, or QOF-related areas where appropriate.

Participate in safeguarding processes for adults and children in line with statutory requirements.

Adhere to all relevant legislation, regulatory standards, and Practice policies.

Teamwork & Communication

Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Practice, Primary Care Network (PCN), Integrated Care System (ICS), and wider multidisciplinary teams.

Contribute equitably to Practice workload and service delivery.

Attend and actively participate in Practice, clinical, governance, and educational meetings.

Promote a culture of professionalism, respect, openness, and continuous improvement.

Professional Development

Participate in annual appraisal and maintain a professional development portfolio.

Engage fully in GMC revalidation requirements and maintain fitness to practise.

Hold and maintain a valid GMC licence to practise, promptly notifying the Practice of any changes or concerns.

Commit to lifelong learning and continuing professional development, supporting a learning culture within the team.

General Duties

Work in accordance with all Practice protocols, policies, and procedures.

Support service development, training, and supervision activities where appropriate.

Ensure completion of all allocated responsibilities within agreed timescales.

Undertake any other duties reasonably required by the Practice, commensurate with the role and service needs.
