Job summary

St Teresas Hospice, Darlington is seeking a Staff Nurse to join our Inpatient Unit team.

If you are passionate about palliative care and want to be part of an effective team that makes a real difference within the community, then this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

We have a vacancy for 25 hours, 2 x 12.5 hour day and night shifts per week. Day shifts are 07:30-20:00 and nights shifts 19:30-08:00.

St Teresas Hospice Band 5, Full time equivalent £31, 200.00 to £37, 578.00 per annum (Actual based on 25 hours per week £20, 800.00 to £25, 052.00), plus enhanced rates for unsociable hours.

Main duties of the job

We are a forward thinking, inclusive registered Charity with Inpatient, Outpatient and Hospice at Home services, providing care and support to palliative patients and their families in their own homes and at St Teresas Hospice.

In this post, you will provide high quality holistic nursing care to palliative patients within the Inpatient Unit and create appropriate plans of care to enable and recognize individual wishes and preferences. You will develop and demonstrate a sound knowledge of palliative care and contribute to the future development of this nurse-led unit through further expansion of specialist knowledge and skills as required.

Essential qualifications and skills include:

First level Registered Nurse (General/Adult Nursing) with current NMC registration Understanding of the Hospice setting and ethos Professional experience in the field of palliative care would be an advantage

Job description Job responsibilities

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Clear understanding of and experience of multidisciplinary team working

Desirable

Post qualification experience working at NHS Agenda for Change band 5 (or equivalent) or above Professional experience in the field of palliative care in any setting, including as a student Experience of public engagement

Qualifications Essential

First level Registered Nurse (General/Adult Nursing) with current NMC registration Understanding of the Hospice setting and ethos

Desirable

Evidence of teaching or mentorship in practice Palliative care qualification, i.e. An introduction to patients with cancer and long term conditions at Diploma level or BSc (hons) Practice Innovation (Palliative and End of Life Care) Willingness to undertake Nurse Prescribing qualification and Palliative Care Qualification if not already held Knowledge and understanding of the palliative care agenda including local and national guidelines and documents.

Skills and Motivation Essential

Good clinical skills Strong interest in palliative care & passion for delivering high quality patient care Passion for ethos of the hospice and demonstrable interest and enthusiasm for the vision of the organisation

Desirable

Clinical skills in phlebotomy Clinical skills in IV cannulation and administration of medicines
