About this role

Job summary

Older Adult Consultant in the Rotherham South Community Mental Health Team.

The successful applicant will be one of two consultants providing day to day medical support to the South Community Team in Rotherham. The base for this team is Swallownest Court in Rotherham with easy access to the M1 motorway. There is a Trust wide community review taking place from this year which will change the community teams' function and bases to align with Neighbourhood working.

Main duties of the job

This is a 0.6 WTE community post; the post-holder will have responsibility for the Rotherham Older Adults South Community Mental Health Team and it is expected that clinical contact (DCC) will comprise 75% of the working week with the other 25% dedicated to administration, CPD, service development and teaching dependent on the special interests of the successful candidate (SPA).

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

oFull registration with the GMC oInclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for Old Age Adult Psychiatry or a trainee within six months of completing their CCT. Would consider a candidate with MRCPsych and AC approval

Desirable

oMRC Psych or equivalent higher qualification. oHigher Specialist Training in Adult Psychiatry (e.g. SpR scheme) oMD, Management qualification, other professional qualification (e.g. CBT, PSI, CAT)

Experience Essential

oPrevious experience within Older Adult General Adult Psychiatry oExperience of psychiatric practice in a range of settings. oExperience of audit and an understanding of the principles of clinical governance

Desirable

oPrior experience working as an old age Consultant in Adult Psychiatry. oEvidence of development of special interest oProven commitment to improving the quality of clinical care oOther special interest/expertise relevant to the post.

Knowledge Essential

oKnowledge of research processes

Desirable

oCommitted to Continuing Professional Development oSound knowledge of NHS management structures and systems

Skills Essential

oAll applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues demonstrated by one of the following: .That applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English; .have achieved the following scores in the academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application - Overall 7.5, Speaking 7.5, Reading 7.5, and Writing 7.5 oClinical supervision experience/skills. The aptitude and potential to develop a leadership role within the service with special emphasis on leading on quality and clinical standards and engaging in service improvement

oAbility to undertake training/mentoring of medical staff in junior grades and enthusiasm for education.

Additional Essential

oApproved or eligible for approval under Section 12(2) of MHA 1983 oApproved or eligible for Approved Clinician Status.

oAccess to transport and the ability to travel within the required geographical area
