Main duties of the job
As a Locum Consultant in Elective Gynaecology, you will provide specialist care to patients throughout their elective treatment journey, from initial consultation through to post-operative follow-up. Working within a modern elective healthcare environment, you will undertake outpatient clinics, perform a range of planned gynaecological procedures, and support the delivery of safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care.

Optimised Care is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Locum Consultant in Elective Gynaecology to support the delivery of high-quality elective services within our growing healthcare organisation. The successful candidate will provide specialist assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and surgical management of patients requiring elective gynaecological care while maintaining the highest standards of clinical excellence, patient safety, and professionalism.
This role offers the opportunity to work within a dedicated elective environment, focusing on planned care pathways and delivering outstanding outcomes for patients undergoing gynaecological procedures.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical ResponsibilitiesConduct outpatient gynaecology clinics for new and follow-up patients.
Assess, diagnose, and develop treatment plans for a wide range of gynaecological conditions.
Manage post-operative follow-up appointments and recovery pathways.
Provide expert advice and support to patients regarding treatment options and ongoing care.
Ensure informed consent is obtained and documented appropriately.
Maintain accurate and timely clinical records.
Surgical ResponsibilitiesUndertake elective procedures including:
Laparoscopic treatment of endometriosis.
Bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (BSO).
Diagnostic hysteroscopy.
Operative hysteroscopy.
Mirena coil insertion and replacement.
Endometrial assessment and biopsy procedures.
Other elective gynaecological procedures within scope of practice and competency.
Service DeliverySupport the efficient delivery of elective gynaecology services.
Maximise theatre productivity and utilisation.
Contribute to reducing patient waiting times.
Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless patient journeys.
Support service development and pathway improvements.
Clinical GovernanceAdhere to all GMC, CQC, and organisational standards.
Participate in audits and quality improvement initiatives.
Promote a culture of patient safety and clinical excellence.
Ensure compliance with infection prevention, safeguarding, and governance requirements.
LeadershipProvide clinical leadership within the elective gynaecology service.
Support and mentor junior medical staff where appropriate.
Contribute to education, training, and knowledge sharing activities.
Assist with the ongoing development of elective services.
Person SpecificationEssentialFull GMC registration with licence to practise.
Specialist Registration in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (or within six months of CCT).
Extensive experience in elective gynaecology practice.
Proven competency in laparoscopic surgery, hysteroscopy, and Mirena coil procedures.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong commitment to patient-centred care and quality improvement.
Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
DesirableExperience within independent healthcare or high-volume elective services.
Advanced laparoscopic accreditation.
Previous locum consultant experience.
