Job summary Optimised Care is seeking an experienced and motivated Locum Consultant ENT Surgeon to join our growing elective healthcare service. As a Locum Consultant ENT, you will play a key role in providing specialist outpatient consultations, post-operative follow-up care, and elective surgical procedures including Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS), Septoplasty, and Tonsillectomy. Working alongside a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you will help deliver efficient patient pathways while maintaining the highest standards of safety, governance, and patient experience.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will provide consultant-led ENT care across elective outpatient and surgical services, supporting patients throughout their treatment journey. You will assess, diagnose, and manage patients presenting with a wide range of ENT conditions, ensuring high standards of clinical care and patient experience at all times.

Working closely with multidisciplinary colleagues, you will contribute to the delivery of efficient and effective elective services, helping to improve access to care and reduce waiting times. Elective ENT Locum Consultant

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Locum Consultant ENT Surgeon to join our elective services team. This role focuses on delivering high-quality outpatient and surgical ENT care within a streamlined elective pathway, supporting improved patient flow and excellent clinical outcomes.

You will work as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, providing consultant-led care across outpatient clinics, elective theatre lists, and post-operative follow-up services.

Key ResponsibilitiesOutpatient & Clinical Care

Provide consultant-led ENT outpatient clinics for new and follow-up patients

Deliver accurate diagnosis, treatment planning, and patient counselling

Ensure high standards of clinical documentation and informed consent

Manage post-operative reviews and ongoing patient care

Elective Surgery

Undertake planned ENT procedures, including:

Septoplasty (with or without turbinate reduction)

Tonsillectomy

Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS)

Conduct pre-operative assessments and optimise patient pathways

Provide safe post-operative care and follow-up planning

Service Delivery

Contribute to efficient elective theatre and clinic scheduling

Support initiatives to improve patient flow and reduce waiting times

Work within established clinical pathways and service protocols

Maintain flexibility to meet service requirements

Governance & Quality

Maintain accurate and timely clinical records

Adhere to clinical governance, safeguarding, and patient safety standards

Participate in audit and quality improvement activities

Comply with organisational and regulatory requirements

Teamwork & Leadership

Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams

Provide support and guidance to junior colleagues where appropriate

Contribute to a positive, safe, and efficient working environment

Person SpecificationEssential

Full GMC registration with licence to practise

Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for ENT (or within 6 months of eligibility)

Substantial experience in elective ENT practice

Proven competence in FESS, septoplasty, and tonsillectomy

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Commitment to high-quality, patient-centred care

Desirable

Experience in independent healthcare or high-volume elective services

Subspecialty interest in rhinology or general ENT surgery

Previous locum consultant experience

Interest in service development or pathway optimisation
