Job summary
Chelsea and Westminster Hospital is seeking an experienced and motivated Newborn and Infant Physical Examination (NIPE) Lead Midwife to lead the delivery of the NIPE screening programme. This role requires an autonomous senior practitioner to provide expert clinical advice and leadership on all aspects of the NIPE screening programme in line with national and Trust standards
The post holder will be responsible for the management and delivery of the NIPE programme and will provide leadership, clinical expertise and support within the clinical areas, including the clinical facilitation of the 'Examination of the Newborn' (EON) Clinic. The post holder will also contribute to failsafe, data management and responding to patient satisfaction concerns/data.
Main duties of the job
Take responsibility for the day to day management and daily running of the NIPE services ensuring that high quality care is delivered and maintained at all times
Ensure safety, quality of care and NIPE failsafe for all babies born at Chelsea and Westminster hospital and those returning to our catchment area. Support team members with clinical support and mentorship
Support preceptorship midwives to gain EON competency
Data and administrative tasks associated with service
Responsible for all standards of NIPE screening set by the National Screening committee and adhered to and maintained.
Ensure that KPI data is collected and reviewed, updated and presented.
To ensure that complaints and incidents are dealt with proactively. Investigate incidents and complaints and provide reports as required, develop, implement, monitor and evaluate associated action plans.
Attend any meetings appropriate to your area/role, ensuring effective communication within the team and leading on actions are undertaken.
To act as an effective role model and demonstrate effective organisational and leadership skills, including motivation of staff.
To maintain a high profile, be seen to be in charge and fulfil management and clinical responsibilities to patients pertinent to the role.
To participate in the teaching of all learners and appropriate members of staff.

Job Summary
The post holder will act as an autonomous senior practitioner and specialist adviser in relation to the Newborn Infant Physical Examination (NIPE), providing expert clinical advice and leadership on all aspects of the NIPE screening programme in line with national and Trust standards
The post holder will be responsible for the management and delivery of the NIPE programme and will provide leadership, clinical expertise and support within the clinical areas, including the clinical facilitation of the Examination of the Newborn (EON) Clinic. The post holder will also contribute to failsafe, data management and responding to patient satisfaction concerns/data.
The post holder will monitor the overall performance against the S4N NIPE programme and will maintain an oversight of the programme ensuring a failsafe is in place for all babies born at this unit or returning to our catchment area. Close liaison with the screening team is essential so that appropriate monitoring and reporting is undertaken for the Trust.
Responsible for the collection and presentation of KPI data and will update the National Screening Programme database as required and participate in relevant screening meetings held within the MDT.
Working flexibly within the team is integral to individual professional development and service provision. The post holder may be asked to work throughout the maternity unit as required to support staff and service delivery. This provides an opportunity to enhance leadership ability throughout the service and demonstrates the Trusts commitment to professional development.

CLINICAL/ ROLE SPECIFIC
Responsibility for ensuring 7 day cover for EON within Chelsea and Westminster Hospital
Oversee the running of daily EON clinic
Data and administrative tasks associated with this
Attendance at any national meetings related to newborn screening
Sharing clinical learning/disseminating new guidance related to screening standards or Trust guidelines
Support all members of the EON team and co-ordinate appropriate cover for the service
Clinical support and mentorship for new members of the EON team
Support for preceptorship midwives to gain their EON competency
MANAGEMENT

To reassess the staffing rotas in the light of unexpected absences and adjust accordingly to meet the needs of the service.
To inform the Management team (as appropriate) about conditions within maternity services and staffing levels that may affect safe service provision.
If appropriate to the role and training to line manage staff junior to your role, with the support from the management team.
To create and maintain an effective communication system between all staff groups working in maternity services and to ensure that a positive working environment is achieved.
