This is a development post with opportunity to progress within the HIV specialism.
1 x full time and 1 x 30 hour post available
The HIV Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) will develop individual knowledge and competence which will support the provision of a seamless specialist HIV service.
Whilst undertaking the role the HIV CNS will be supported by the more experienced HIV Advanced Clinical Nurse Specialist to enable the HIV CNS to achieve competence in agreed areas of specialist HIV practice through work based learning and development, training and education to agreed levels of competence to enable autonomous practice within the HIV speciality.
The HIV CNS will use the specialist knowledge and skills gained to provide quality healthcare to clients living with HIV, which will reflect the principles of clinical governance, clinical effectiveness, cost effectiveness as well as Trust and National Policies.
The HIV CNS will also function in a variety of non-provider roles including educator and researcher, contributing to nursing, medical and other disciplines' practice and development.
Main duties of the job
o Delivering Nurse-led HIV clinics, and the safe and effective running of these clinics, including, appointment scheduling, and the management and monitoring of antiretroviral therapy; under the direct supervision of the HIV Advanced Clinical Nurse Specialist.
o Manage a caseload of clients with differing and complex physical, social, psychological, cultural and spiritual needs, under the direct supervision of the HIV Advanced Clinical Nurse Specialist.
o One to one support, co-ordinate complex care, providing information, education and counselling to clients.
o Acting as an advocate to help clients decide about their clinical treatment.
o Triage phone calls and clinic walk-ins managing them safely and appropriately, liaising with line manager and other members of the team, under the direct supervision of the HIV Advanced Clinical Nurse Specialist
o Improve access to and improve retention into HIV care.
o Coordinating the client journey through clinic, including the wider integrated sexual health service.
o Co-ordinate complex care and refer onto other professionals as part of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT)

Qualifications Essential
Registered Nurse Degree level Qualification Extensive Post registration experience
Experience Essential
Evidence of working with staff from different professional disciplines, and the ability to build and sustain new working partnerships. Demonstrate the ability to work autonomously with effective decision making.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Essential
Demonstrate the ability to interpret and utilise Clinical results. Up to date knowledge and awareness of national guidelines. Good organisation skills including record keeping and documentation.
