Job summary
Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant Paediatricians to join the team.
There is an expectation that the post holders will have an interest, or experience, in the special interests of epilepsy.
If the successful candidates do not have the relevant experience, they will be supported to develop this role.
These posts will complement a team of 17 consultants to provide attending and on-call services for General Paediatrics, Paediatric Assessment unit and Level 2 Neonatal Unit.
Main duties of the job
The duties outlined below are not definitive and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service. The specialist interests as outlined above are essential. It is expected the candidate will maintain APLS/NLS provider status, level 3 safeguarding training and keep up to date with mandatory training and current developments in acute and neonatal paediatrics.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
Provide clinical leadership.
Set standards of clinical care
Participate in the development of acute child health services.
Promote integration between primary and secondary care services.
Promote preventative health.
The post holder will undertake 2 general outpatient and 1 specialist clinic per week. The post holder will be expected to have the abilities to set up and work in a multi-disciplinary team and have clinical accountability for the day-to-day management of children at their respective sites as a consultant of the week.
The successful candidates will be expected to further develops clinical protocols and guidelines. The successful candidate will maintain involvement in clinical audit and clinical governance.

Qualifications Essential
MRCPCH by examination or equivalent MBBS or equivalent Valid Level 3 Safeguarding Training Valid BLS Training Valid APLS/EPLS/EPALS and NLS
Desirable
SPIN training in special interest i.e. oEpilepsy Entry on GMC Specialist Register; eligible for entry on Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of training (CCT) at time of interview
Experience Essential
Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in the specialty Comprehensive knowledge in the specialty and ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems.
