About this role

Job summary

We have an exiting opportunity to join us here at Mid and South Essex Foundation Trust to manage a team in an essential part of the pathology service.

You will be responsible for the day to day management of all functions for Blood Sciences Specimen Reception and Office.

This includes management of the service and the team of Medical Laboratory Assistants and administrative staff.

Main duties of the job

Please refer to the Job description for further details of this role , however some of your duties will include the following:

You will manage all administration support activities for Blood Sciences Reception and Office including the Blood Sciences phone line, paper result distribution and stationery supplies

Perform any other duties, commensurate with the grade and in the interest of the service.

Produce a bench and shift rota for Blood Sciences Reception and Office, ensuring training, rotational and miscellaneous staffing needs are met

Manage the recording of changes to the rota due to staff sickness or short notice absences

Attend and organise all mandatory training for Blood Sciences Reception and Office

Assess the competence of Medical Laboratory Assistants, Medical Laboratory Support Workers, Trainee Biomedical Scientists and Biomedical Scientists to perform tasks relating to Blood Sciences reception and sign off as competent where necessary, and to inform Lead Biomedical Scientist of possible training needs for individual staff

Ensure that Clinical Pathology Accreditation (CPA) and UKAS ISO standards are met in Blood Sciences Reception and Office

Maintain a high standard of work and comply with the Departmental and Pathology Quality Policies.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Degree or equivalent level of ability gained through substantial NHS experience in a management setting

Desirable

Management qualification (or working towards) Experience of working within an pathology Setting

Knowledge and Experience Essential

Knowledge and understanding of operational management within clinical services. Supervisory experience - ability to manage, lead and co-ordinate staff Experience of undertaking audits, analysing data and providing reports

Desirable

Awareness of Pathology KPIs
