About this role

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Barts Health for an enthusiastic and highly motivated senior specialist dietitian in critical care and nutrition support. This is a part time position (15 hours per week) and the successful postholder will work alongside another band 7 critical care dietitian, the dietetics team and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver a dietetic service to the critical care units and in-patient wards at Whipps Cross Hospital.

We are looking forward to welcoming a motivated and dynamic individual to our Nutrition and Dietetic service at Whipps Cross Hospital which comprises of 9 dietitians and 4 dietetic support workers. The post holder will show strong clinical and leadership skills and maintain a strong professional presence within both the dietetic team and the critical care MDT. They will contribute towards the operational management of the dietetics team and leadership of the dietetic service to critical care and actively engage in relevant quality improvement, research and audit projects.

We are committed to work-based education and training to improve clinical skills and there is a robust system in place for staff supervision and CPD.

Main duties of the job

Responsibility forproviding specialist nutritional care to patients on critical care and on in-patient wards at Whipps Cross Hospital

Deliver advanced nutritional assessment, diagnosis and management of complex patients requiring nutrition support, including enteral and parenteral feeding

Provide coverfor parenteral nutrition ward round asrequired

Workas an integral member of the multidisciplinary team (MDT), contributing to clinical decision-making, service development, education and quality improvement within critical care nutritionand acutenutrition support

Act as an expert resource on the nutritional management of patients during critical illness anddelivereducation todietitians, dieteticstudentsand other health care professionals within the trust

Supervise junior staff and provide support,guidanceand teaching in the management of complex patient cases

Support the clinical lead dietitian in the operational management of the dietetics teamincluding day to daymanagement,non-clinicalleadershipresponsibilitiesandservice development and qualityimprovement initiatives

Actively engage inand support junior staff members with quality improvementinitiatives,auditand research

Be compliant with the professional responsibilities of the role, including trust statutory and mandatory trainingrequirements,HCPC standards of conduct andengagement inclinical supervision and annual appraisal of performance

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

BSc degree or postgraduate qualification in Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent Registration with theHealth and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

Desirable

Postgraduate qualification in nutrition support, critical care or other relevant topic

Experience Essential

Post-registration experience as a dietitian, including evidence of practical experience in the area of critical care and nutrition support Clinical experience of managing patients requiring enteral and parenteral nutrition Experience of developing and implementing service improvement initiatives/quality improvement projects Experience in audit and/or service evaluation Experience in the clinical supervision of junior dietetic team members

Desirable

Experience in line managing junior dietitians and/or dietetic assistants/support workers Experience in coordinating and managing student dietitian training at student coordinator level

Knowledge Essential

Evidence of specialist knowledge in critical care dietetics and nutrition support Knowledge of the evidence base and key policies, guidelines and research relating to critical care nutrition Able to evidence regular engagement in relevant CPD activities

Skills Essential

Able to complete thorough nutritional assessment of complex, acutely ill patients and develop robust dietetic treatment and monitoring plans using advanced clinical reasoning and decision-making skills Organisation skills. Able to manage a busy complex case load and workload of clinical and non-clinical duties Excellent communication stills Show initiative in managing day to day issues and problem solving Evidence of working autonomously and collaboratively with professionals from different disciplines to deliver services or patient care Line management skills, leadership and mentoring skills Education skills Strong IT skills

Desirable

Skills and abilities in supporting with operational running of the dietetics team including preparation of reports, attending meetings at senior management level and leading on recruitment drives for dietetic staff
