Job summary
Retrieve is the South West's dedicated Adult Critical Care Transfer Service (ACCTS). Commissioned by NHS England South West Specialised Commissioning, hosted by University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust and supported by the South West Critical Care Network. The service is recruiting a new Clinical Director to lead Retrieve over the coming years and become a core member of the Leadership Team, working closely with the General Manager and reporting to the Division of Surgery Clinical Chair and Director. This role has evolved significantly since the service's inception and is now supported by a Leadership Team as well as a larger Senior Team. We are looking for an experienced consultant in adult critical care retrieval to continue the successful leadership and development of the service. The role is remunerated at 4 PA per week plus 1.95 PAs clinical requirement. Please see attached job description for further details.
Main duties of the job
o Ensure Retrieve remains focussed on delivering its Objective and Strategy and follows its valueso Provide clinical leadership for Retrieve including the direct line management of the Consultant Leads within the service, supported by the General Manager for the service. o Ensure the highest professional standards within Retrieve are attainedo Ensure the delivery of effective governance arrangementso Ensure the Retrieve service delivers against all Quality Indicator targets (national and local) and meets Care Quality Commission standards for quality of service deliveryo Help maintain a constant drive to achieve the highest standards of direct and indirect care of the patient requiring transfer and inspire novel ways of working at all levels within Retrieve to achieve thiso Contribute to the introduction of new ideas, benchmarks and practices from other comparable transfer services, health organisations or economic sectors, which have a strong evidential base for improving performance o Respond to patient feedback and develop changes in service provision to ensure the highest levels of patient satisfaction.o Lead medical recruitment and deliver a sustainable and resilient medical workforce compliant withthe national service specification and the regionally agreed Duty Consultant Fair Share Model. o Contribute to delivering financial stability within Retrieve, operating within the agreed budget.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Full GMC registration with license to practise. Specialist register entry in a relevant specialty (e.g. Intensive Care Medicine, Anaesthesia). Demonstrable training, competency and currency (ongoing regular exposure) to the delivery of in-hospital critical care.
Desirable
Higher qualification in retrieval/transfer medicine (e.g. Diploma in Retrieval and Transfer Medicine or international equivalent). Formal training or postgraduate qualification in leadership and management.
Knowledge & Experience Essential
Compliance with GMC Good Medical Practice, appraisal and revalidation requirements. NHS Consultant. Robust experience of working in an acute adult critical care retrieval service Deep understanding of the role of Adult Critical Care Transfer Services regionally and nationally.
Desirable
Clinical leadership and management experience within healthcare at departmental, divisional or higher level.
Skills & Abilities Essential
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong commitment to professional and leadership/managerial development. Ability to manage self including self-awareness. Flexible and adaptable to changing situations. Good strategic analytical skills and awareness of internal, regional, national operating environments. Able to work under pressure and at pace in dynamic and rapidly changing environments with evolving targets and requirements. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills. Ability to work unsupervised and manage own workload. Effective time management and organisational skills. Ability to actively participate in the Retrieve rota providing Duty Consultant day and night shifts (1.95 PAs per week)
Desirable
Evidence of training in healthcare leadership and management. Evidence of effective leadership of healthcare team(s). Evidence of innovative problems solving at tactical/strategic level. Evidence of strategic working within healthcare leadership. Evidence of cross-organisational, regional and/or national working.
