Job summary

Locally Employed Doctors (ST3+) are experienced Doctors working in the NHS on localcontracts, typically at ST3 level or above. These Doctors are not part of the traditionaltraining pathway but are employed directly by NHS Trusts and contribute to variousclinical areas, often with a focus on developing advanced clinical and leadership skills.They often have a mix of clinical direct patient care and educational responsibilities,including supervision of resident doctors, and may contribute to service development.This job would be mixed research and service provision with 3 clinics a week, teachingof medical students at Scarborough hospital and research sessions with the head andneck team.

Main duties of the job

The principle duty of this post is to provide a comprehensive clinical service to patients within the trust area.o To, at all times, comply with the GMC requirements of Duties of a Doctoro To ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.o To undertake duties as defined within the attached job plan in so far as practicable and in agreement with your clinical director.o To be responsible and managerially accountable for the reasonable and effective use of any Trust resources that you use andinfluence, and professionally accountable to the Medical Director.o On commencement to ensure personal attendance at the Trust's Corporate Induction.o To participate in the Trust's statutory and mandatory training programmeo To be responsible for the clinical management of in and out patients under your care.o To comply with Trust policies and procedures where appropriate.o To ensure that all intellectual property rights of the Trust are observed.o Detailed working knowledge of safeguarding agenda, and its relevant legislation, policy and guidance is required.

Person Specification

Experience and Knowledge Essential

Understands the principles of patient confidentiality and data protection. Able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and skill. Written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients & colleagues. Able to communicate effectively with multi-disciplinary team members, patients, relatives, GPs and other agencies.

Desirable

Understanding of current NHS issues. 12 Months continuous experience within the NHS.

Qualifications and Training Essential

Has achieved MRCS, MRCS ENT or equivalent medical qualification. NIHR Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certificate. Eligible for full GMC registration with license to practice at time of starting the post. Satisfactory completion of F1/F2 post and core training or equivalent. At least 1 years of ENT experience (in addition to foundation training)

Desirable

Distinctions, scholarships, prizes. Experience of research. Knowledge of UK health systems, practices and values; awareness of current issues in the NHS.
