Band 7 or 6 depending on experience.

The successful candidate will be joining a well-established team of Band 6 and 7 Clinical Nurse Specialists, Lead Nurse and Consultants in Palliative Medicine who provide specialist palliative care expertise across the acute and community settings. The team values close working relationships and have a firm commitment to the education and training of others.

For this post, we are keen to attract a team orientated, experienced nurse, who ideally has worked in a specialist palliative care setting or have extensive experience in caring for palliative patients. They will possess excellent communication skills, have established emotional resilience and be skilled decision maker.

The successful candidate will take up a position as a caseload holder working within a caseload share model. They will join an established specialist team who have expertise in undertaking holistic assessments, symptom management, psychological support and providing advice and signposting to other services, for our patients and carers.

Our new team member will be joining a service that has a strong team culture, where support for each other has become a natural aspect of day to day working. In addition, the successful individual will enjoy close support and mentoring from all team colleagues.

Main duties of the job

To work within the integrated Wye Valley NHS Trust Specialist Palliative Care Team, being responsible to the Lead Palliative Care Macmillan CNS.

The post holder will be a caseload manager and practice leader, provide high level clinical assessment, proactive clinical care across all care settings for people facing life limiting illness.

To contribute to the achievement of corporate objectives.

This is a Band 7 post for 30 hours per week. We are also happy to interview Band 6 level nurses and this could be a developmental post to progress to a Band 7 if meeting a competency framework or continue at Band 6.

Person Specification

Education & Qualifications Essential

Registered Nurse with current NMC registration 1 st Degree in nursing study

Desirable

Teaching qualification relevant to specialty Advanced Communication Skills Training or will undertake within first six months in role MSc degree or working towards Health Assessment Module Independent nurse prescribing

Experience Essential

Significant post registration experience including specialist palliative care. Ideally 5 years post registration experience, 2 years specialist experience. Experience in developing policy, undertaking audit Computer literate Demonstrate the ability to deliver advanced clinical skills in practice Effective and sensitive handling of difficult information and situations

Desirable

Managing a caseload

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Essential

Leadership ability Good time management Demonstrate an ability to problem solve highly complex situations Developed analytical and judgemental skills Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to a wide range of people Computer literate including competence with Maxims, EMIS or will undertake training within first month
