Job summary

JOB SUMMARY:Reporting to the hospital unit chief executive officer, with a professional accountability to the group chief nursing officer, the post holder is accountable for contributing to and implementing group strategy.The director of nursing will be a core member of the hospital unit's leadership team and will provide leadership to the associated nursing and midwifery workforce by shaping a culture of continuous improvement. The director of nursing is responsible for the hospital unit's standards of nursing care and midwifery care in partnership with the group director of midwifery to ensure excellent patient care and for the implementation of practice in line with the group's objectives.The director of nursing will work strategically with the hospital unit medical director to enhance patient experience, quality of care and ensure patient safety. In addition the director of nursing will ensure effective systems are in place to monitor and improve clinical, operational and financial performance of nursing and midwifery teams and individuals.

LEADERSHIPo To be an effective, collaborative, and dynamic member of the health unit executive team supporting the CEO to develop an inclusive and progressive culture - underpinned by focus on patient and people experience, financial sustainability, continuous quality improvement, and the tripartite mission.o To provide innovative professional leadership and direction to the nurses within the health unit and wider trust that supports the modernisation and improvement of services ensuring compliance with statutory instruments, NMC, professional standards and local policies.o Provide professional support and leadership to divisional directors of nursing / midwifery for divisions in the designated health unit.o Promote quality, innovation, productivity and prevention in health and health care services within the scope of one's work and the work of others.o To create a culture of openness and transparency where staff are able to raise concerns and know they will be listened to and where they will be able to get feedback.o Actively promote compassionate inclusive leadership.
