About this role

Job summary

The Trust is seeking for a part time Consultant in Psychiatry (0.6WTE) in North Mersey Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team (CRHT) covering Liverpool & Sefton. The post holder will take an active part in the clinical work of the team; the majority of clinical work is based on site, but service users may also be seen at home, as required. The post holder will also be supported, where appropriate, to develop a special interest in a clinical area, which meets the Trust objectives.

The post holder will facilitate improved working relationships with Mersey Care colleagues including involvement in shared governance arrangements and where appropriate quality improvement.

The post holder will regularly attend the Trust-wide Tuesday morning Local Academic postgraduate (LAP) programme (Local MRCPsych teaching) currently online via Teams as part of their weekly SPA sessions.

The post holder will work closely with the other consultant colleagues in CRHT and be an integral part of the multidisciplinary team. They will be encouraged to purse education and experience for their professional development.

The post holder will be expected to take a lead in ongoing developments in CRHT and support the Trust's strategic aims of delivering "Perfect Care".

Main duties of the job

This will consist of patient reviews and home Visits to see urgent or emergency reviews for patients open to the team although the bulk of cases will be reviewed on site.

Management of complex cases and consultative advice on patient care to other team members.

Clinical leadership of team by participating in team MDTs to discuss allocations of patients and dispense the responsibilities under that Role for such patients as per the MHA Code of Practice.

Care plan and treatment formulation, guidance on evidence-based treatment and effectiveness.

Liaison and collaborative working with other services/agencies.

Mental Health Act implementation.

Oncall Rota

Multi-disciplinary, multi-agency and partnership working.

Maintain Contemporaneous documentation electronically on patient records and also timely communications with primary care colleagues.

Maintain a high standard of clinical work when carrying out clinical assessments.

Ensure compliance with our clinical governance framework.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

MB BS or equivalent medical qualification CCT in general adult psychiatry / old age psychiatry, or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, or CESR.

Desirable

MRCPsych CCT in general adult psychiatry with equivalent to one year's supervised training in liaison psychiatry. Section 12 and Approved Clinician (or eligibility for section 12 and Approved Clinician)

Eligibility Essential

Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment. Significant recent experience in adult and / or old age psychiatry

Desirable

In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice. Experience in General adult/old age psychiatry or other specialty

Transport Essential

Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative.

Clinical Skills, Knowledge and Experience Essential

Excellent knowledge in specialty Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge Excellent oral and written communication skills in English Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA

Desirable

Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service. Previous experience of working at consultant level. Evidence of ability to effectively explain psychiatric illness and treatments to other professionals and patients.

Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training Ability to work in and lead team Demonstrate commitment to shared leadership & collaborative working to deliver improvement. Desirable

Able to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post Reflected on purpose of CPD undertaken Experienced in clinical research and / or service evaluation. Evidence of achievement in education, research, audit and service improvement: awards, prizes, presentations and publications. Has led clinical audits leading to service change or improved outcomes to patients
