Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for x2 HCA's to join M1. We have a full time 37.5 hour and a part time at 32.25 hours per week available.
M1 is a 30-bed medically optimised older adult ward that also supports up to 10 escalation beds during periods of increased demand. The ward provides care for patients who are clinically stable but require ongoing nursing support, monitoring, and discharge planning. M1 is not a rehabilitation ward; however, preventing de-conditioning and maintaining independence are key priorities within the patient's agreed care plan.
The ward predominantly supports frail older adults with complex needs, including cognitive impairment, reduced mobility, and long-term conditions.
The Healthcare Assistant plays a vital role in delivering high-quality, compassionate, and person-centred care under the supervision of registered nurses. The post holder will support patients with activities of daily living, nutrition and hydration, safe mobilisation, and comfort, while promoting dignity, independence, and wellbeing.
The ward aims to support patients to return to their usual place of residence wherever possible; however, some patients may require ongoing discharge planning while awaiting assessment beds, rehabilitation placements or 24-hour care homes. Healthcare Assistants contribute to a safe ward environment, effective teamwork, and positive patient and family experience.
Main duties of the job
Assist the Registered Nurse in administering direct patient care. Communicate clearly with patients, carers, relatives and all members of the multidisciplinary team. Communication with patients including discussion on patient comfort and safety and recording of communications on Wirral Millennium. Prioritising own workload. Inform qualified staff of changes in patient's condition or observations. Escort and chaperone patients as appropriate. Communicate with patients/carers taking into consideration the needs of the individual. Undertake some clerical duties such as filing. Undertake ordering of supplies, within agreed stock levels, ensuring stored correctly. Ensure availability, cleanliness and maintenance of equipment . Assist in the safe handling of patients valuables and property. Adhere to Wirral Hospital objectives, policies, protocols and guidelines. Report any concerns or anxieties that patients disclose to the appropriate health care professional in charge of patient care. Participate in ward safety huddles and raise concerns as required. Actively participate in maintaining patient comfort and support patients to change position to maintain healthy skin integrity.
