Job summary
To perform and interpret a wide range of echocardiographic investigations to a high clinical and technical standard. The post-holder will work as part of the Non-Invasive Cardiac Physiology team, delivering high-quality diagnostic services, supporting clinical decision-making, and contributing to patient care across both inpatient and outpatient settings.
The role will be based across Ealing Hospital and the Ealing Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC), with a requirement for flexible 7-day working across LNWH.
Main duties of the job
Perform and provide preliminary reports on transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE) in accordance with British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) standards. Independently undertake a range of non-invasive cardiac investigations, including ECGs, Holter monitoring, and exercise tolerance tests, as required. Participate in stress echocardiography, contrast echocardiography, and transoesophageal echocardiography sessions under appropriate supervision. Recognise life-threatening arrhythmias and respond appropriately, including performing basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation when required. Communicate findings clearly and effectively to medical and nursing staff, escalating urgent or abnormal results in a timely manner. Contribute to service development and quality improvement through audit, continuing professional development (CPD), and participation in teaching and training activities.

Person Specification
Education/ qualifications Essential
BSc degree in Clinical Physiology or equivalent Working towards British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) Accreditation or equivalent Membership in BSE or equivalent. BLS certification Evidence of continuing education and professional development.
Desirable
Experience in stress and transoesophageal echocardiography. Previous NHS experience at Band 5 or equivalent Evidence of participation in audit or quality improvement projects. Master's level or higher degree in Cardiology ILS certification
Knowledge and experience Essential
Proven experience in performing and provisionally reporting adult transthoracic echocardiogram independently. Proficiency in operating GE and Philips Echo machines Good foundational understanding of basic ECG interpretations, including the ability to accurately analyse standard ECG recordings Demonstrated capability to recognise and promptly identify life-threatening arrhythmias
Desirable
Experience in research and development, ideally in a clinical setting Familiarity with clinical study design and data handling Knowledge of Cerner System Knowledge of Change Health Care System
