This is a full time role offering 37.5 hours per week. Part-time candidates will be considered but due to service delivery requirements it must be on a job share basis as full-time hours need to be covered. The salary will be pro-rata where part-time hours are undertaken.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary primary healthcare team delivering primary healthcare nursing including elements of occupational health.

They will work with the Senior Practice Nurse or Senior Medical Officer within the medical facility (MF) and will be a focal point for Primary Healthcare nursing issues within area of practice.

The post holder will be able to work unsupervised and provide nursing care to the MF population at risk.

Job description Job responsibilities

The main duties and responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

Provide safe, evidence-based, cost-effective and individualised patient care. Manage the care of patients with chronic illnesses e.g. Asthma, Diabetes, Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) and hypertension ensuring continued maintenance of the Chronic Disease Register

Undertake preventative health programmes e.g. travel and vaccination clinics, new patients screening, audiometry.

Manage the care of patients with chronic illnesses e.g. Asthma, Diabetes, Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) and hypertension ensuring continued maintenance of the Chronic Disease Register.

Undertake technical nursing treatments and procedures for patients complex/specialist healthcare needs (e.g. wound care, sutures removal, electrocardiogram (ECGs), Cytology, Audiometry, Ear Care).

Provide assistance to the Senior Medical Officer performing minor surgery where applicable.

Undertake health and well-being clinics (e.g. smoking cessation, weight management, alcohol misuse) using health promotion, health education, screening and therapeutic communication skills.

Further Information

Requests to work flexibly and/or part time will be considered, taking into account business needs. Please note the salary will be pro-rata where part time hours are undertaken.

All employees joining Ministry of Defence who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a 6-month probation period (unless otherwise advised) effective from the employment start date.

Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed is security check.

Access to the NHS pension scheme is available to the successful candidate.

There is no requirement to deploy as this is met by our uniformed personnel, but you will form the continuity of care required by our patients when based at home.

Qualifications Essential

Professional and specialist knowledge in primary healthcare acquired through post graduate degree/diploma or actively working towards this and can demonstrate equivalent level of competence and experience in clinical assessment and diagnosis Learning and Assessing in Practice Qualification or equivalent practice assessors training

Desirable

Must be in date for Basic Life Support (BLS) Anaphylaxis, Automated External Defibrillation (AED) Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Safeguarding Level 3 (Children and Adult depending on population at risk) or willingness to undertake training. Registered non-medical prescriber or willingness to undertake training.
