We have an exciting opportunity for a Prosthetist to join our team in Cambridge.
This role will involve working as part of the MDT in a newly fitted out, modern facility in Great Shelford, Cambridge, in partnership with the Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
We have a large clinical team of clinicians specialising in both prosthetics and orthotics, which provides a positive and supportive environment allowing for collaboration and improved patient outcomes.
Main duties of the job
Delivers autonomous, patient centred care, independently managing routine and moderately complex cases, and seeking guidance for more challenging situations.
Applies sound clinical reasoning and experience across patient groups to ensure accurate device design, fitting, and adjustment using clinical and technical skills.
Engages in continuous professional development through self-directed study, literature review and participation in relevant training.
Contributes to audits, service evaluations and research activities with guidance as needed, supporting data collection and reflective learning.
Manages clinical equipment and resources responsibly, with awareness of cost effectiveness and service sustainability.
Adheres to clinical prescription guidelines to ensure safe, effective and appropriate patient care.
Effectively plans and prioritises caseload to meet service delivery targets, managing time and multiple tasks efficiently in a dynamic clinical environment.
Mentors less experienced staff, supports student and apprentice placements and actively participates in training and team learning.
Maintains accurate clinical records and contributes to audits and quality improvement initiatives to support safe, effective and continuously evolving patient care.
Maintains mandatory training, adheres to policies and procedures and works collaboratively within the team

Opcare have been providing the Prosthetic and Orthotic Service in Cambridgeshire since 2009. This role is an excellent opportunity to have a key influence within the service to advance and improve the delivery of service.
The Prosthetic Department is based in our brand new facility in Great Shelford, Cambridge. This is a purpose built facility for the delivery of our services, where we provide outpatient and community prosthetic care for a wide variety of patients. There is a complex mix of Adult and Paediatric MDTs and extended practice clinics which provide a great opportunity to be exposed to interesting and varied caseloads.
Onsite at Cambridge, we work closely with the gait lab team, specialist physiotherapists and orthopaedic surgeons for surgical and medical planning pathways for paediatric and adult amputees.
Alongside the specialist clinics, the role leads and supports the day to day delivery of prosthetic services within the county. There is opportunity to work across company networks and groups including 3D manufacturing, scanning and clinical governance projects.

Skills and Experience
Essential
Highly developed interpersonal skills including formal and informal communication
Proven record of working within an active, fast paced clinical environment
Experience of having collaborative role in an MDT environment
Working proactively and collaboratively in the team and wider trust
Interest in service development and or evidence of involvement
Able to prioritise, plan and organise efficiently and work with multiple conflicting priorities.
Desirable
Experience with CAD CAM or digital workflows.
Experience mentoring students or clinical staff.
Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams and handle complex cases
Qualifications
Essential
BSc (Hons) in Prosthetics & Orthotics or equivalent.
HCPC registered.
Desirable:
Full driving licence Relevant MSc, or postgraduate qualifications in a clinical area. Practice educator training BAPO member

BSc Prosthetics and Orthotics Certified Prosthetist HND Prosthetics Must also be fully HCPC Registered.
