Job summary
Role of the post holder: To lead and support the local implementation of perinatal pelvichealth service (PPHS) designed at Epsom and St Helier in collaboration with SouthwestLondon (SW Local Maternity and Neonatal system (LMNS), Surrey Heartlands and NHSEngland. This is in line with the NHS Long Term plan commitment to improve access topostnatal physiotherapy services for women. The local ambition which is that ALL women areto have education and advice around pelvic health and access to Physiotherapy services inthe postnatal period.
The post holder will be a champion for Pelvic Health and the expectation is that they will be responsible for promoting good quality midwifery/ obstetric led interventions which aim to reduce pelvic floor muscle dysfunction for childbearing women.
The post holder will work closely with professional colleagues and women to plan andcoordinate their care based on their individual needs. You will have key roles in providingtraining in perineal and bladder care for midwifery staff and in ensuring policy and evidence basedguideline developments are in line with national recommendations.
Main duties of the job
Be responsible for developing and taking the lead in promoting good pelvic health inpregnancy and the postnatal period. Ensure delivery of the highest quality effective care, prioritising and utilising researchand in collaboration with colleagues in everyday practice. Support midwifery staff in clinical practice by working alongside them in the clinicalareas. Maintain clinical competence in all midwifery practice areas. Lead with maternity practice development team, the training/development strategy forall staff in maternity services and primary care on prevention, recognition, andtreatment of pelvic health issues and to ensure evidence-based information for womenand birthing people on pelvic health. As a senior member of the midwifery team, review and influence the development and Implementation of policies based on local, national and international agendas. Ensure women receive timely access to NICE recommended treatment for commonpelvic health problems in the antenatal and postnatal period. Coordinate between pelvic health services and community services which may includesexual health and mental health services. Provide consistent, personalised care that is supported by clear pathways acrossEpsom and St Helier hospitals and SWL and Surrey Heartlands irrespective ofpostcode to reduce unwarranted variation. Ensure that key performance indicators of the PPHS are achieved and reported toNHS England.

Job description Job responsibilities
To work in accordance with the NMC Rules and Code for nurses and midwives To be responsible for the provision of a high quality, woman centred midwifery service for the Trust, in line with the national and Trust standards To work with the multidisciplinary team to continually monitor the quality of care that women receive and improve outcomes in line with the PPHS objectives. To identify areas for improvement and to take a lead role in designing, implementingand supporting new and existing initiatives e.g. OASI and pelvic health training. Provide professional leadership including motivation of staff regarding new ways ofworking to meet the needs of the PPHS. Development and lead an effective day to day running of specialist programmes of care for specific patient groups with a multi-disciplinary team. This will involve support of clinics for women who suffered Pelvic floor dysfunction and or at risk groups who sustained an OASI or perineal trauma, perineal breakdown to name a few. Review and maintain specific pelvic health guidelines to improve prevention recognition and treatment pelvic floor dysfunction Provide up to date, evidenced based information and education for colleagues and students to enhance knowledge and skills relating to the perineal care of women in labour and postnatally in line with LMNS PPHS. Conduct regular reviews of the effectiveness of any new project through an established Quality Improvement programme, audit or research to ensure they effectively addressthe needs of the local population and cascade onwards or formally write up for aresearch article where appropriate.

Registered midwife on NMC register Evidence of extensive experience as a band 6 Evidence of continuous personal, professional and academic experience

Masters on Women's Health / Advanced Midwifery practice or relevant Masters Teaching qualification Leadership / Management qualification Previous experience as a team leader / band 7 specialist role
Previous Experience Essential
Significant post Registration experience within their speciality Must be able to carry out the physical activities required by the job. Experience of designing, delivering and evaluating, training sessions / programmes
Desirable
Previous experience of leading a pelvic health service
Skills / Knowledge / Ability Essential
Excellent time management and organisational skills Understanding of the principles of teaching and learning and their application within the practice setting Knowledge of recruitment, selection and disciplinary procedures. Able to present articulately to large groups of people Evidence of excellent clinical skills

Understanding and knowledge of curriculum design and development. Knowledge of local, regional and national policies pertaining to practice experience and education Experience of running clinics independently.
