Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department, at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

The role of the Deputy Directorate Manager will sit within Obstetrics & Gynaecology and will be responsible for the strategic and operational management working under the supervision of the Directorate Manager.

The role is ideal for someone who wishes to deliver improvement and the perfect development opportunity for an aspiring Directorate Manager who is keen to develop their career in operational management.

This role requires significant engagement and working in collaboration with a number of different stakeholders, including commissioners, acute, primary care, and mental health providers as well as the public, voluntary and community sector organisations.

The post holder is expected to provide visible leadership and promote high standards by modelling the values and behaviours expected of a senior manager in the NHS.

Main duties of the job

As the Deputy Directorate Manager, you will be a key member of the Directorate Leadership Team and take responsibility for agreed operational aspects of designated services including financial, activity and performance management .

You will also support business planning, deputise for the Directorate Manager as required and contribute to governance and quality improvement within the service.

You will be responsible for developing and implementing service improvement and redesign initiatives to support efficient delivery of key business and service objectives.

You will play a pivotal role in influencing, developing and sustaining key relationships with external stakeholders.

Community Services

Providing adult community services for St Helens and a wheelchair service in Chorley, South Ribble, and West Lancashire. Our inpatient unit at Newton Community Hospital is where patients needing acute hospital beds can continue rehabilitation, freeing up space for more unwell patients. We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.

Specialist Regional Services

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.
