About this role

Job summary

This is a 6 month post, with a possibility to extend to 12 months and beyond if mutually agreeable. The post is suitable for an experienced anaesthetic trainee (ST4 equivalent and above) wishing to consolidate their experience in anaesthesia. Candidates must have completed Stage 1 of the RCoA anaesthetic curriculum and be in possession of the Primary FRCA examination or equivalent from overseas. Completion of full FRCA or equivalent is desirable.

The post holder would join a busy department that provides anaesthetic services for multiple adult and paediatric surgical specialties and a busy labour ward. There is scope for moulding the position to a degree to match the particular interests of the successful applicant.

Main duties of the job

We are able to support portfolio development within both the training and portfolio (CESR) pathways and provide clinical training in general surgery, orthopaedics and trauma, paediatrics, regional anaesthesia, obstetrics, pain and intensive care amongst other areas of anaesthetic training as specified by the RCOA. We are able to provide comprehensive support of non-clinical domains of the anaesthetic curriculum.

Job description Job responsibilities

Day time clinical duties will initially be based on labour ward and then will be tailored to the individuals training requirements. There will be a 1:8 on-call commitment on the resident obstetric Registrar rota. Applicants must be competent independently inserting neuraxial spinal and epidural blocks for both labour analgesia and for operative procedures. The successful candidate must also be able to confidently manage a busy labour ward out of hours, and be able to provide initial management and resuscitation for all obstetric emergencies such as category one caesarean section, major obstetric haemorrhage, and severe pre-eclampsia among others.
