Band 8B Pharmacist - Medication Safety and Medicines Governance Lead
**This is a fixed term/secondment opportunity for 12 months to cover maternity leave.**
We have a rare and exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and forward-thinking pharmacist to join the pharmacy team at Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust as the Trust Medication Safety and Medicines Governance Lead.
In this pivotal role, you will be the named Medication Safety Officer (MSO) for the Trust, responsible for overseeing and enhancing medication safety and governance across all services.
You will also play a key role in developing and delivering strategic plans aligned with both local and national priorities, ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and quality.
This is a fantastic development opportunity for a senior pharmacist to work closely with the Chief Pharmacist.
Main duties of the job
As a trusted expert, you will provide specialist advice and support to the Chief Pharmacist, Associate Chief Pharmacist, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Nursing Officer, Director of Nursing, and other key stakeholders.
The role also includes line management responsibility for the Band 8a Lead Pharmacist for Elderly Care.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Pharmacy Degree (MPharm) or equivalent Registered with the GPhC Postgraduate Pharmacy Qualification or equivalent experience (minimum Postgraduate Diploma level) Management qualification or equivalent experience (Lean, Six Sigma, PRINCE2)
Desirable
Qualified Patient Safety Specialist or willingness to work towards qualifying as a Patient Safety Specialist Membership of the Royal College of Pharmacy and or UKCPA
Experience Essential
Significant experience working as a clinical pharmacy practitioner in an acute NHS hospital setting Experience of guideline, policy, SOP or prescribing pathway development and implementation Experience working in the arena of medication safety, governance, or risk in an acute clinical setting Demonstrable experience in working with senior healthcare professionals outside of pharmacy to achieve trust quality objectives Demonstrable experience in managing and motivating staff, appraising and giving feedback
Desirable
Experience in conducting and supervising research, practice and/or improvement projects
Knowledge & Skills Essential
Demonstrates knowledge in the safe use and handling of medicines across various services within an acute care setting Understanding of risk management and applying this in practice Demonstrates knowledge of the requirements of national organisations involved in Medication Safety Demonstrates knowledge of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework with demonstrable experience in applying this to medicines and pharmacy Demonstrates ability to evaluate clinical evidence and clearly summarise to decision-makers Demonstrates ability to manage pharmacy services Knowledge of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework with demonstrable experience in applying this to medicines and pharmacy
