This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to high-profile commercial and academic infection studies within a growing and nationally recognised research programme.

The Infectious Disease and Microbiology research team in Bristol is seeking an ST1-5 level doctor to join our trial team as a clinical research fellow.

Vaccine research teams in Bristol have supported the delivery of clinical trials of COVID-19 vaccines that have subsequently been approved for use. Trials are delivered between Southmead Hospital and the Bristol Royal Infirmary. This work has now expanded supporting other commercial and academic studies studying all areas of infection among both inpatients and the community.

The post is initially offered for 6 months, with a likely extension to 12 months subject to funding confirmation early in the appointment.

Interviews are anticipated in late May 2026 with the post commencing August 2026. Flexible working is supported subject to the negotiated hours and working patterns meeting the needs of the service.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will play a key role in the delivery of commercial and academic clinical trials, supporting participant recruitment, study reviews, and research governance activities. There will also be opportunities to contribute to service development, gain experience in trial delivery, and, for candidates with appropriate experience, develop an independent project alongside ongoing studies.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing research group in a vibrant city, based in the Learning and Research Centre at the Southmead Hospital and working in partnership with colleagues at the Bristol Royal Infirmary in the city centre.

The post holder will work across both sites and provide cross-cover during periods of annual or study leave, while also supporting flexibility for research development opportunities and clinical experience.
