Working on our Southmead Hospital site primarily across the wards, you will be taking blood samples from patients and ensuring their prompt and safe transportation for testing.
Refined interpersonal skills and the ability to put patients at ease will be vital in ensuring smooth collection with as little distress as possible.
Working with a degree of autonomy, you should be able to prioritise your own workload with strong time management skills. A prior understanding of infection control measures and sharps procedures would be advantageous, and adhering to established protocol will be crucial.
As this is a physically demanding role requiring walking, standing and bending for the duration of your shift, as well a good degree of manual dexterity, please ensure you are able to meet the physical needs of the position.
Main duties of the job
You will support the existing team in their multi departmental service delivery, across seven days including public holidays. You will provide a service to the very busy and demanding blood sampling room, for patients attending clinics of varying specialities.
Duties include blood sampling for patients on all acute wards, medical, surgical and high-risk infection departments.
Whilst previous phlebotomy experience is beneficial, all applicants will be considered as full training is provided. You will commence at Band 2, progressing to Band 3 after a minimum period of 6 months and on successful completion of training and competencies. NICU, fistula and vascular training will also be provided.
Applicants invited to interview will be expected to complete and pass an assessment of basic numeracy and literacy prior to interview. Candidates with previous experience will be required to demonstrate their skill in a practical test.
Please note that we are unable to offer fixed shifts.Shift patterns are as follows: 2 posts x 19 hours per week to include 3 shifts per week Monday to Friday (07:00-12:00 or 12:00-17:00) or 2 shifts Monday to Friday when on weekend rotation, every other weekend and rotational bank holidays (07:00-11:00).
