Job summary

Are you a highly experienced SLT in the field of voice disorders ready to take on a leadership role? Come and join our friendly and dynamic Community Adult SLT team as our clinical lead. We work across all areas of the voice/upper airway disorders pathway and play an integral role in supporting the Joint ENT-SLT Voice Clinic at UHCW.

We are a research and audit active team with a passion for service development and growth. We have a robust supervision and appraisal system and training and CPD are actively encouraged and supported.

A full UK driving license is essential for this role. Please note that an international driving license is not accepted.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

Main duties of the job

Lead, co-ordinate and deliver a high quality, evidence-based Speech and Language Therapy service to voice and dysphagia patients, requiring a highly advanced level of knowledge, skills and experience. Provide clinical supervision, training and support to less experienced speech and language therapists working in voice and dysphagia. Provide advanced speech and language therapy assessment and treatments and review for voice and dysphagia patients referred into the service. This will be for patients in a variety of settings including home visits, community clinics and at clinics at UHCW. Support delivery of the Joint Voice Clinic at UHCW in collaboration with colleagues from ENT. Provide support to specialist ENT clinics at UHCW NHS Trust. Provide training and support to the wider MDT on voice and swallowing disorders as required.

Job description Job responsibilities

Work as an autonomous practitioner, providing comprehensive, specialist speech and language therapy assessment, differential diagnosis and treatment of adults who present with swallowing and voice difficulties. Provide expert voice and dysphagia advice and guidance to patients, carers, health and social care professionals internal and external to the organisation. Contribute to/lead SLT policy development within Speech and Language Therapy. Identify gaps in the voice service and assist with service improvement to develop the service in line with national and local strategies. Use specialist knowledge to respond to ensure that referrals are prioritised and triaged effectively to expedite rapid assessment, management and discharge planning. Provide regular clinical supervision, training and day-to-day management for Speech and Language Therapy staff who are working within voice and dysphagia, ensuring that an integrated and successful therapy service is provided. Undertake leadership and line management duties as required for the post, including taking overall operational responsibility for the Speech and Language Therapy Service on behalf of the Speech and Language Therapy Service Manager during periods of absence. Work proactively and collaboratively with colleagues in the multidisciplinary team including ENT, GP, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, dietetics, clinical psychology. Deputise for the Head of Dietetics and Speech and Language Therapy as required, providing leadership and support throughout the departments, and working in collaboration with other Band 8a staff within the services. Work within National and Trust policies/guidelines; and HCPC and RCSLT standards and codes of conduct.
