Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Advanced Pharmacist - Paediatric Cystic Fibrosis to join the Pharmacy team at UHSussex. This is a newly developed role aimed at strengthening paediatric cystic fibrosis and respiratory pharmacy services.
This post will provide clinical pharmacy support for children with complex and long-term conditions, including cystic fibrosis, pancreatic insufficiency, chronic respiratory infections, CF-related diabetes, nutritional complications, and complex antimicrobial therapies. The post holder will contribute to the delivery of pharmaceutical care across inpatient and outpatient settings, working as part of the multidisciplinary team across wards, clinics and homecare services. The role offers the opportunity to develop advanced clinical and leadership skills within paediatric cystic fibrosis, with support from senior pharmacists. You will contribute to service development, medicines optimisation, quality improvements, while building experience in collaborative working with clinical teams.
There will be opportunities to support the Children & Women's Services, contributing to service delivery and gaining exposure to leadership and decision-making processes.
Applications are welcomed from motivated Band 6 pharmacists seeking to develop specialist expertise. Progression to Band 7 will be supported and is dependent on completion of a relevant postgraduate diploma.
Main duties of the job
provide advanced clinical pharmacy support for paediatric cystic fibrosis across inpatient, outpatient and homecare settings, supporting children with complex long-term respiratory, infectious and nutritional conditions.
Act as a specialist pharmacist for paediatric services, including CFTR modulators, specialist antimicrobials, pancreatic enzyme replacement therapies and nutritional treatments, supporting safe, effective and evidence-based use.
Work as, or towards becoming, an independent prescriber, contributing to the initiation, adjustment and monitoring of treatment within scope of practice.
Contribute to multidisciplinary team (MDT) working through participation in ward rounds, specialist MDTs, clinics and transition of care meetings, providing pharmaceutical advice to clinicians, patients and families.
Support the development and review of clinical guidelines, protocols and care pathways, and contribute to audit, governance and risk management activities.
Contribute to service development initiatives, including pharmacist-led clinics, outpatient and homecare services, medicines optimisation and high-cost medicines monitoring, with support from senior pharmacists.
Support the supervision, training and development of pharmacy staff, including pharmacists, foundation pharmacists and technicians.
Provide support to Children & Women's Services, contributing to service delivery and gaining leadership experience.

This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route however sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds (£25000), and any role-specific criteria.
You will be responsible for the delivery of expert patient care providing support to the lead pharmacists. This includes development, evaluation and co-ordination of clinical pharmacy services in line with the objectives of the division and the UHSx Pharmacy strategy. You will contribute to all aspects of clinical governance, including clinical risk and audit. As a teaching hospital, education and training is an integral component of all roles encompassing practice supervision of undergraduates, pre-registration pharmacists and the line management and educational supervision of band 6 pharmacists as appropriate. Master of Pharmacy degree at a British School of Pharmacy or recognised equivalent Registered member of the General Pharmaceutical Council or working towards registration
