Waddington Ward and the Oncology Assessment Unit at Lincoln are seeking an experienced and motivated Ward Manager to lead our oncology and haematology inpatient and assessment service. We are looking for a dynamic individual with fresh ideas, strong leadership skills, and a genuine passion for deliveringhigh-quality, patient-centred care.

The successful applicant will demonstrate a clear drive to develop, improve, and innovate services, while supporting and inspiring multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care. This role provides an excellent opportunity to influence service delivery, promote best practice, and contribute to the ongoing development of oncology and haematology services within the organisation.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to take on the role of Ward Manager within Waddington Oncology & Haematology Ward and the Oncology Assessment Unit.

The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the department, supported by the Deputy Sisters/Charge Nurse team. This includes ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and high-quality patient-centred care, maintaining professional standards, and promoting a positive ward culture.

You will act as a strong patient advocate, demonstrating excellent communication skills across all levels of the multidisciplinary team. A sound understanding of the principles of general medical nursing is essential, alongside the ability to lead, support, and develop staff within a busy oncology service.

About us

Lincoln Hospital is a thriving university city and with the opening of the medical school, it provides all major specialties and a 24-hour major accident and emergency service.

United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust has been granted teaching hospital status, after demonstrating evidence to significant teaching commitment. From now on it will be known as United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust (LCHS) and United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT) have come together in a Group arrangement, with the goal of improving the care provided to patients across the county.

This will not constitute a formal merger of the two organisations, but will bring the Trusts together under a single Board and Executive Leadership Team, with the goal of improving the care that is provided to patients both in the community and in hospitals across Lincolnshire. Both Trusts will retain their separate statutory names and legal obligations.

The Group will be known as Lincolnshire Community and Hospitals NHS Group (LCHG).

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Registered Nurse Level 1 Teaching and assessing course, ENB 998 or equivalent Evidence of continuing professional development High Level of clinical skills and knowledge

Desirable

Degree or willingness to undertake Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT) experience

Previous experience Essential

Evidence of current experience at Sister Band 6 or above in Acute Medical Services. Evidence of teaching in clinical practice Can implement and manage change Proven leadership and managerial capabilities

Experience of involvement in clinical audit Experience of managing resources effectively Experience of bed flow management
