Job summary
We are looking for a compassionate and motivated Health Care Assistant to join the team at Kingstanding Circle Surgery. The successful candidate will play an important role in providing patient support, carrying out clinical duties, and helping ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the surgery.
Main duties of the job Main Duties of the Role
The Health Care Assistant will support the clinical team with a range of patient care duties including taking blood pressure readings, performing NHS health checks, phlebotomy, ECGs, wound care, and assisting with chronic disease monitoring. The role also involves preparing clinical rooms, recording accurate patient information, maintaining infection control standards, and providing a caring and professional service to all patients. The successful candidate will work closely with GPs, nurses, and administrative staff to deliver safe and effective care.

Job description Job responsibilities Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesClinical Duties
Perform routine clinical procedures including:
Phlebotomy (taking blood samples)
Blood pressure monitoring
Height, weight, and BMI measurements
Urinalysis
ECG recording
Blood glucose monitoring
Pulse and temperature checks
Assist with chronic disease monitoring clinics.
Support GPs and nurses during patient examinations and minor procedures.
Carry out wound care, dressings, suture/clips removal (if trained).
Administer vaccinations and injections under Patient Specific Directions (if trained and competent).
Chaperone patients during examinations where required.
Process and prepare laboratory samples for collection.
Undertake NHS health checks and lifestyle assessments.
Provide basic health promotion advice including smoking cessation, diet, exercise, and wellbeing support.Administrative Duties
Maintain accurate patient records using the practice clinical system (e.g. EMIS/SystmOne).
Ensure consulting and treatment rooms are clean, stocked, and prepared.
Monitor and rotate clinical stock and supplies.
Record and monitor fridge temperatures and report discrepancies.
Dispose of clinical waste safely according to infection control policies.
Support reception and administrative teams when required.
Attend practice meetings and mandatory training sessions.
Person Specification
Experience Essential
Essential Skills and Experience Experience working as a Healthcare Assistant or in a similar healthcare setting. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Understanding of confidentiality and data protection. Basic IT skills and experience using healthcare systems. Ability to follow clinical protocols and procedures safely. Caring, compassionate, and professional attitude. Essential Qualifications NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent). Good standard of English and Maths. Evidence of continuing professional development.
Desirable
Desirable Previous General Practice experience. Experience with ECGs, wound care, immunisations, and chronic disease management. Knowledge of EMIS
