Job summary
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic individual to work as a Consultant in general ENT Surgery with a special interest in Otology.
The appointee will work closely with the existing Consultants and other members of the multi-disciplinary team to provide a comprehensive service to patients. This post will appeal to appropriately trained and accredited clinicians who have enthusiasm and who are looking for a stimulating and challenging career. This exciting opportunity exists for appropriately trained registrars or experienced consultants, and candidates must be on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of achieving this. The post will be based at Barnsley Hospital with weekday on call covering Barnsley hospitals only and weekend on calls including Sheffield and Chesterfield hospitals. The post-holder will also be expected to have a role in the training and teaching of registrars, junior doctors, medical students, nurses and other health professionals.

Main duties of the job
(a) Clinical Services:
The appointed clinician will, together with Consultant colleagues, be responsible for the planning, delivery and improvement of clinical care in ENT Surgery at Barnsley Hospital.
Work closely with the multidisciplinary teams to provide a high quality ENT Surgery service.
Advise clinical colleagues on matters within his/her sphere of experience.
Liaise with other Health Care Organisations, Social Services, General Practitioners, Voluntary Organisations and the Hospice as required.
Keep services up-to-date and give direction to future developments
(a) Training and Education:
Contribute to the teaching of other grades of staff, both within and outside the department, including medical staff, nurses, paramedical staff and scientific and technical staff.
Consider a role as Educational Supervisor / Clinical Supervisor for Specialist Registrars, Core Trainees, Foundation Doctors.
(c) Clinical Governance
The post-holder will be expected to demonstrate continuing improvements to the quality of service provided within the framework of the Trusts Clinical Governance arrangements. This will include:
Participation in the development of a satisfactory and consistent quality of clinical service by establishing appropriate systems, agreeing standards and ensuring standards are met.
