Job summary

This is a senior programme management rolefocused on improving patient flow and reducing delays across a complex, multi-partner, regional paediatric long-term ventilation (LTV) programme.

The post holder will build strong, collaborative relationships with commissioners, providers and families, and lead service redesign and pathway development to improve care for children and young people on LTV.

With a high degree of autonomy, they will deliver programme plans, manage performance and finances, and use data and evidence to drive impact.

They will bring strong experience in team leadership, stakeholder engagement and programme delivery, with the ability to navigate complex systems, drive collaboration and influence change. The role combines strategic oversight with hands-on delivery, ensuring that high-quality, equitable and patient-centred care remains at the heart of all programme developments.

Main duties of the job

As Programme Manager, the post holder

will manage a dynamic MDT team in delivering an effective service supporting clinicians, managers and staff to manage and lead the LTV programme will manage the delivery of the strategic objectives of the programme will work across healthcare system boundaries to engage and collaborate with multiple stakeholders (health, social, education, commissioning) to implement new models of care Build, manage and maintain strong and collaborative working relationships

About us

The Pan Thames paediatric LTV programme aims to to transform service delivery of paediatric LTV to reduce the time babies, children and young people on LTV spend in hospital and maximise high-quality care and time at home.

The Pan Thames paediatric LTV programme is commissioned by NHS England and is jointly managed by the South and North Thames Paediatric Operational Delivery Networks to transform service delivery of paediatric LTV (Tracheostomy and Non Invasive Ventilation) to reduce the time babies, children and young people on LTV spend in hospital and to maximise high-quality care and time at home.

Geographically, the programme covers the North Thames Paediatric Network (North London and bordering East of England Trusts), and the South Thames Paediatric Network (South London, Kent and Medway, Surrey Heartlands, Sussex).

The post holder will be asked to be in our offices based in Waterloo (St Thomas' hospital) and in Russell Square (Great Ormond Street hospital) at least one day a week.

Person Specification

Qualifications/ Education Essential

Educated to first Degree with significant experience as senior manager in the NHS Evidence of Master's degree, or other post graduate qualifications, or equivalent by virtue of experience

Project Management qualification

Previous experience Essential

Substantial NHS experience of managing teams Experience of working at senior project management or programme management level in a complex organisation facilitating transformational change within and across healthcare organisations Experience of working at senior operational management level in large complex environment

Desirable

Previous role in service improvement or operational experience above service manager level

Skills/Knowledge/ Ability Essential

Ability to complete and action Project Briefs, Project Initiation Documents (PIDs), Project Implementation Plans, Highlight Reports, Exception Reports, Risk Logs, and Project Closure Reports Knowledge and ability of using and applying service improvement techniques including Lean and patient flow, the productive series, pathway process redesign and PDSA cycles A proven ability to manage data and information effectively within a service improvement environment Ability to manage a team, work with and influence senior management and clinicians Ability to manage and monitor financial resources and delivering projects within budget Ability to problem solve and support others to develop this skill Excellent communication skills and evidence of ability to motivate, negotiate, train, coach and reassure in a difficult or uncertain environment
