We areseekingto appoint aConsultant Physician in Acute Medicine and Endocrinologyto join our teams at The Royal London Hospital and St Bartholomew's Hospital. This is an excellent opportunity to combine a core role in acute medicine with specialist endocrine practice within a large and diverse teaching Trust.
In Acute Medicine, you will join a well-established, consultant-led service delivering care across the Acute Assessment Unit, Emergency Department and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC). Consultant activity is structured around the acute medical take, post-take ward rounds, and ward-based responsibilities, providing a balanced mix of acute clinical decision-making, continuity of care, and ambulatory medicine.
TheEndocrinologycomponentof the post is delivered across both sites, with outpatient activity based atSt Bartholomew's Hospitaland inpatient endocrine work primarily atThe Royal London Hospital. This includes specialist endocrine consultation for inpatients, participation in multidisciplinary care, and contribution to the management of complex endocrine presentations.
Main duties of the job

. The role also includes involvement in established endocrine services at St Bartholomew's, including outpatient clinics and multidisciplinary working within a tertiary endocrine centre with recognised strengths in pituitary disease.
Both departments are actively engaged in service development, quality improvement, and education. The postholder will have opportunities to contribute to teaching undergraduate and postgraduate trainees, as well as to the ongoing development of clinical pathways across acute and specialist care.

The Royal London Hospital is amajor trauma and neurosurgical centre,providinga distinctive opportunity to be involved in the assessment and management of endocrine complications ofneurosurgical disease and traumatic brain injury, alongside acute general medical care. The role also includes involvement inestablishedendocrine services at St Bartholomews, including outpatient clinics and multidisciplinary working within a tertiary endocrine centre with recognised strengths in pituitary disease.
This cross-site model offers the opportunity tomaintainand develop specialistexpertiseacross bothacute and tertiary endocrine settings, whileremainingembedded in acute general medicine. The successful candidate will contribute to high-quality care across both organisations and support the development of integrated clinical pathways.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
MRCP (UK) or equivalentrecognisedpostgraduate qualification CCT or CESR in Acute/Internal Medicine and Diabetes & Endocrinology (or within 6 months of interview date)
Desirable
Higher degree (MD, PhD or equivalent)
Professional Registration Essential
Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) withlicencetopractise(or eligibility to obtain prior to start date)
Experience Essential
Demonstrable experience within the last 3 years of working in acute medicine, including participation in the acute medical take, leadership of post-take ward rounds, and assessment and triage of acutely unwell patients within an Acute Medical Unit or equivalent acute assessment service Experience of managing complex acute medical patients, including independent decision-making in inpatient and ambulatory settings Experience of managing endocrine disorders in inpatient and outpatient settings, including assessment, diagnosis, and ongoing specialist management
Desirable
Experience working in a Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) or Ambulatory Emergency Care service, including senior clinical decision-making Experience working in a tertiary endocrine referralcentremanaging complex endocrine conditions Experience contributing to endocrine multidisciplinary team working (e.g. pituitary, thyroid or neuroendocrine MDTs) Experience managing endocrine complications of neurosurgical disease or traumatic brain injury.
