Job summary

Are you a mental health nurse with leadership experience or interested in developing your leadership and management skills?

We have an exciting opportunity within Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP) to appoint a new Lead CPN within the Community Mental Health Team. We would welcome applications from people with or without management experience. There will be plenty of support to help you develop your leadership skills in order for you to be effective within the role. We are able to offer management and leadership courses to assist in your development.

About Mental Health Services for Older People

This is a brilliant time to join MHSOP as we are currently undergoing significant service development. We are committed to working within the recovery model and dedicated to improving the well-being of service users and their carers'. Therefore, we have invested in specialist staff and training to ensure our staff are fully supported within their roles. We are very keen to assist staff to develop their use of psycho-social interventions. This allows them to meet the needs of our service users and carers.

We are an integrated team and work very closely with our local authority partners. The integrated team is based in Llanfair Unit on the University of Llandough Hospital site. We are a supportive, experienced and highly motivated multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

About the role of Lead CPN

The Lead CPN will be managerially and professionally responsible for the community mental health nurses based within Cardiff and the Vale Localities. They will work alongside the Clinical Lead Nurse who is responsible for the development and training of staff. You will work closely with the two lead social workers for each locality as part of the integrated team. You will be supported within your role by the Senior Nurse and Integrated Manager.

You will ensure a high standard of care and treatment is delivered for service users in line with the Mental Health Measure (2010). This will be facilitated by regular supportive supervision of staff. You will work with other members of the team and other agencies to best meet the health and social needs of the service users. You will also play a key role in the development of services as per the goals of MHSOP directorate.

Qualifications Essential

Registered Nurse (Part 1) Current NMC Registration Degree plus specialist clinical, management training and CPD to Postgraduate Diploma Level Bronze IQT

Desirable

Recognised management qualification Recognised leadership qualification Master's degree in pertinent subject Teaching/Coaching qualification

Experience Essential

Knowledge of legislation pertinent to role Proven and relevant experience at Band 6 Able to demonstrate sound knowledge of NMC Code (2018) Proven post-registration experience and evidence of coordinating and managing a team of staff. Experience of working in a multi- professional environment Experience of effective staff management Experience of running a ward/ area/department Experience of mentoring pre- registration nursing/midwifery students Experience in teaching, training, supervision of mental health professionals and mentoring pre-registration students. Experience of involvement with service developments within CMHT's or other designated areas. Experience in audit and/or evaluation of services. Proven post-registration experience and evidence of coordinating clinical care, and mobilising resource within a multidisciplinary team. Experience of chairing, facilitating group discussion and debate with a professional team context. Experience of maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing difficulties, at times with very upset and disturbed people which could pose risk to themselves or others.
