About this role

Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic colleague to join our team to further enhance our services and share responsibility of the Diabetes and Endocrinology service and to maintain the highest clinical standards in the management of Diabetes and Endocrinology.

The Arun Baksi Centre of Diabetes and Endocrinology is the specialist resource on the Island for these two specialities. The team work closely together to provide a comprehensive service for people with diabetes and endocrine conditions within a self-contained unit.

There will be opportunity for the appointee to develop their own sub specialty interest and research could be incorporated into the role.

Main duties of the job

Provision of a high-quality comprehensive district general hospital diabetes and endocrinology service with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness, and the proper functioning of the service.

Participate fully in the ongoing development of the diabetes and endocrinology service, in line with national and NICE frameworks.

Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff including the observance of local employment and human resource policies and procedures

Responsibilities for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education activity, locally and nationally.

Engage in medical audit and other clinical effectiveness activities, in particular the Trusts Clinical Governance processes, fostering improvements in quality and standards.

CPD is provided in job plans and attendance at audit and other governance meetings is mandatory

Cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences

Person Specification

Qualifications and Experience Essential

Full GMC registration and entry on GMC Specialist register in Diabetes & Endo via Entry on the GMC specialist register in the specialty appropriate for this post, via (a) CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview), (b) CESR or (c) European Community rights Higher UK qualification - MRCP or equivalent recognised by the GMC. Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience, expertise and competence in managing diabetes and endocrinology patients. Special interest compatible with the needs of the service Participation in Audit relevant to specialty Commitment to the development of a high-quality cost-effective service to Diabetes and Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine

Desirable

Relevant higher Degree either Masters, Doctorate level or equivalent
