Job summary
This is a full-time, 12-month Clinical Fellow post in Gynaecological Oncology, designed for trainees at ST6 level or above wishing to develop advanced skills in gynaecological oncology, complex surgery, and multidisciplinary cancer care. The post holder will work closely with a team of Consultant Gynaecological Oncologists and Clinical Nurse Specialists, within a well-established cancer service based at University Hospital Dorset working across both the Poole and Bournemouth sites.
The department offers: a high-volume ovarian cancer debulking service, including radical and ultra-radical surgery, minimally invasive and robotic surgery for endometrial cancer, a structured multidisciplinary team (MDT) environment, exposure to regional cancer pathways. The post is ideal for candidates preparing for Subspecialty training in Gynaecological Oncology. The fellow will also have the opportunity to participate in the colposcopy service of the department and achieve BSCCP Colposcopy Accreditation. In terms of research all the consultants are active in doing research and participating in multicentre trials.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is expected to work across both Poole and Bournemouth in providing resilience to the existing middle grade rota, with increasing autonomy under consultant supervision. Duties will include Gynae-oncology outpatient clinics, Gynae-oncology ward rounds, one-stop outpatient clinics, Colposcopy clinic, inpatient and outpatient operating sessions.
The post will involve care of gynae-oncology patients in close liaison with our five Gynaecological Oncology Consultants, the sub-speciality trainee and the Clinical Nurse Specialists. Competence is required in labour ward management, emergency Obstetrics and gynaecology sessions with participation on the Obstetrics and Gynaecology on-call rota.
The post holder will participate in a 1:7 resident on-call shift pattern for 12 hours allowing time for handover and with prospective cover. The out of hours on call is currently delivered in Bournemouth hospital.
