Job summary

We currently have an opportunity for a Registered Mental Health Nurse post accross our South and Central West Manchester Specialist Community Mental Health Teams based at Kingslea House.

Mental health services in Manchester are commencing their journey around Community Transformation. Working towards a new community mental health framework vision for a place-based community mental health model.

As part of this new model, we are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic individual with strong clinical skills who is motivated to support the development of our Specialist CMHTs; with the focus on monitoring and improving the physical health and wellbeing of our patients, using the PHIT assessment tool, as well as safe and effective administration and delivery of medication interventions.

The successful candidate will be an experienced RMN or RGN who will play a key role in the development of a new Physical Health and Medication Management Hub across clinics in our South Manchester and Central West CMHTs.

Main duties of the job

Working in a dedicated pathway within a Specialist Community Mental Health Team, the post holder will deliver on all the aspects of physical health care and medication management which includes managing depot clinics. The post holder will be a qualified Registered Mental Health Nurse.

The post holder will work closely with the Senior Practitioners for Nursing, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Medical staff and Care Coordinators and the wider MDT to deliver high quality, safepatient care. The post holder will always work to promote parity of esteem.

They will be responsible for the Infection Prevention and control of the physical health clinics. The post holder will demonstrate an attitude which respects and values service users' and their Carers. The post holder will hold effective communication skills and work closely with a wide network of services such as GP's, other mental health services and third sector providers.

This will respect individuality, values, culture and religious diversity of clients and colleagues and thus contributing to the provision of a service sensitive to these needs.

Person Specification

Education / Qualifications Essential

RMN/ RGN with NMC Qualified to degree level in Mental Health Nursing Willingness to participate in own continuing professional development within this specialist field

Desirable

Additional training on blood and ECG interpretation. Additional training on health promotion. Additional training on common physical health disorders such as diabetes Trained smoking cessation advisor.

Experience Essential

Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team. Experience of managing depot clinics. Experience of delivering a full physical health assessment. Experience of working independently and managing and prioritising own workload Ability to establish good working relationships with a range of providers including GP's. Ability to participate in Clinical Supervision, both as Supervisee and Supervisor Involvement in Service development.

Desirable

Experience of working in dedicated physical health or medicines management roles.

Knowledge Essential

Good Knowledge of normal physical health parameters. Good Knowledge of a range of interventions to promote physical health for those suffering with mental health problems. Good knowledge of the medications used in depot and long-acting injection form along with a good knowledge of the common side effects. Good Knowledge and application of Risk Management. Good Knowledge of Safeguarding Procedures Understanding of current national policy and initiatives in relation to enduring mental health issues and substance misuse.
