An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Practice Nurse to join our existing team for 30 hours per week.
Salary negotiable dependent on previous experience.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work within an established nursing team and will be supported to provide chronic disease management, childhood immunisation, travel immunisations, cytology, womens health and overall treatment room knowledge.

Job summary:
The practice nurse will work as part of the primary healthcare team providing General Medical Services to the patients of practice. This includes assessment of the patient, plan of care, delivery and evaluation of treatment.
The practice nurse must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and must maintain registration via the revalidation process.
Job responsibilities:
Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs
Cytology
Wound care
Removal of Sutures / Clips
Urinalysis
Travel Vaccinations.
ECGs
Contraceptive Management
Asthma/Peak Flow Readings
COPD management
Diabetes management
Venepuncture
Perform INR point of care testing and dose patients using INR star computer software
Hypertension Management
Routine immunizations/Childhood immunisations/Catch up programmes as per guidelines
Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings
Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate
Maintaining and cleaning equipment used.

Ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels
Participation in administrative systems in the Practice
A duty to advise nurse colleagues of potential problems or errors within a range of assigned tasks

Carry out duties which have been delegated by colleagues within the nursing team.
Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required.
Able to recognize and manage anaphylaxis according to current UK guidelines
Able to perform Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation according to current UK guidelines
Able to document Consultations according to NMC guidelines
Ensures awareness of statutory and local clinical protection procedures, including systems of referral. Ability to recognise signs and symptoms of child abuse.
Ensure infection control guidelines are maintained
Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post
Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Registered Nurse (Adult) qualification (Diploma or Degree in Nursing) Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Evidence of continued professional development (CPD) Immunisation and vaccination training (in line with national guidelines) Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification (in date) Competence in undertaking cervical cytology (smear tests) (or willingness to achieve within a specified timeframe)
Desirable
Postgraduate qualification in Primary Care Nursing Specialist training or certification in chronic disease management (e.g., diabetes, asthma, COPD) Family planning / sexual health qualification Travel health qualification Mentorship/Practice Assessor qualification
Experience Essential
Experience working as a Registered Nurse in a primary care, community, or acute healthcare setting Proven experience in delivering patient care within a clinical environment Experience in administering immunisations and vaccinations in line with current guidelines Experience in managing patients with long-term conditions (e.g. diabetes, asthma, COPD, hypertension) Experience in wound care and dressings Experience in health promotion, screening, and preventative care Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team Experience in maintaining accurate clinical records using electronic patient systems
Desirable
Previous experience working in a primary care / GP practice setting Experience in running specialist clinics, such as: Diabetes Asthma / COPD Hypertension Experience in cervical cytology (smear-taking) Experience in travel health and immunisations Experience in family planning and sexual health services Experience using primary care clinical systems (e.g. EMIS, DOCMAN) Experience in audit, quality improvement, and clinical governance activities Experience supporting or mentoring junior staff or students
