Job summary
Ashfield House Surgery are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, versatile and motivated Practice Nurse to join our friendly and forward-thinking GP practice in Annesley Woodhouse.
The successful candidate will work 35 hours per week over 4 days.
The working pattern is:
Monday: 1:00pm 6:00pmTuesday: 7:30am 6:00pmWednesday: 7:30am 6:00pmFriday: 7:30am 6:00pmPlease note that these hours are fixed due to room availability within the practice and therefore flexibility in the working pattern cannot be accommodated.
The post holder will also be expected to participate in a rota to support service provision, which may include occasional:
7:00am starts8:00pm finishesSaturday working (up to six Saturdays per year)These additional sessions support GP Extended Access services and seasonal clinics.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a broad range of clinical services, including cervical cytology, chronic disease management, wound care, immunisations and health promotion activities. They will undertake reviews and management of long-term conditions such as diabetes, COPD, asthma, hypertension and ischaemic heart disease, whilst supporting patients with contraception and HRT monitoring.
Additional responsibilities will include venepuncture, ECGs, spirometry, pathology requests, vaccine administration, stock management, accurate clinical record keeping using SystmOne, and participation in home visits where appropriate. The post holder will also support minor surgery clinics, undertake new patient health checks, and contribute to maintaining safe and effective clinical environments.

We are a well-established GP practice serving approximately 6,000 patients and are conveniently located in Annesley Woodhouse, close to Junction 28 of the M1.
The successful candidate will join a dedicated and supportive multidisciplinary team comprising GPs, an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, three Healthcare Assistants and an experienced administration team. We work collaboratively to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care and are committed to continuous improvement and service development.
As an accredited training practice, we support the development of future healthcare professionals through the training of medical students and GP specialist trainees. We are also actively involved in research and provide Tier 3 insulin initiation services, offering opportunities to work within an innovative and progressive primary care setting.

Deliver high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to patients within a primary care setting.Undertake cervical cytology screening in accordance with national guidelines.Carry out chronic disease reviews and management, including:DiabetesCOPDAsthmaHypertensionIschaemic Heart DiseaseProvide contraception and HRT monitoring.Perform venepuncture and request relevant pathology tests, including urine cultures and swabs.Undertake ECGs, peak flow readings and spirometry.Deliver routine and childhood immunisations and vaccinations.Provide wound care, ulcer management, dressings and Doppler assessments.Remove sutures and provide follow-up wound management as required.Complete Learning Disability health reviews.Conduct New Patient Health Checks and urinalysis.Support GPs with minor surgery procedures.Undertake ear irrigation/syringing where trained and competent.Carry out home visits where appropriate to support patient care.Maintain accurate and contemporaneous patient records using SystmOne.Manage vaccine and clinical stock levels, including monitoring storage and cold chain requirements.Ensure clinical equipment is maintained, cleaned and sterilised appropriately.Maintain clinical rooms to a high standard, including stock rotation and replenishment.Act as a chaperone when required.Promote health education and preventative healthcare to patients.Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives and service development activities.Attend and contribute to practice meetings and training sessions.Work collaboratively with GPs, Healthcare Assistants, the Advanced Nurse Practitioner and wider practice team to deliver excellent patient care.Comply with all practice policies, procedures, professional standards and infection prevention and control requirements.Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role and level of responsibility.
Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Essential Registered General Nurse (RGN) / Registered Nurse (Adult) qualification. Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD). Competent in delivering routine nursing care within a primary care, community or general practice setting. Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle.
Desirable
Cervical Cytology qualification. Chronic Disease Management qualification or experience, including Diabetes, Asthma and COPD. Spirometry training and competency. Phlebotomy qualification or competency. Immunisation and Vaccination training. Wound Care qualification or specialist experience. Contraception and Sexual Health training. Learning Disability health review experience. Experience using SystmOne clinical system. General Practice Nurse Foundation Course (or willingness to undertake). Mentorship, teaching or assessor qualification.
