Job summary
We have an opportunity for a Clinical/Practitioner Psychologist to join the ABUHB CAMHS Eating Disorder Service. This post is Band 8a but we invite less experienced applicants to apply with a view to starting on Band 7 with a commitment to develop into the Band 8a. This role is 0.6 wte, and there may be additional hours available within the wider Child and Family Psychology and Therapies department that can be discussed.
We are a supportive team of mental health and paediatric nurses, occupational therapists, family systemic therapists, psychiatrist, dietitians and support staff. We see children, young people and their families with a range of eating difficulties and clinical work is informed by the Maudsley approach where appropriate. We offer a range of individual and group based activities with the needs of young people at the centre of our work.
The focus of this post will be supporting more complex presentations of disordered eating, including ARFID type presentations, and children and young people presenting with disordered eating associated with co-occurring neurodevelopmental conditions and those for whom the Maudsley approach is not indicated. As a team we are supporting national developments in Wales regarding service design and provision for ARFID and restricted eating.
You will maintain close professional links with the wider child psychology team and will be professionally supported and managed within the Child and Family Psychology and Therapies Service.
Main duties of the job
To provide a psychological service to children and families in the population served by the specified service as directed by the Head of Paediatric Clinical Psychology Service and Paediatric ARFID Service.This includes direct intervention work with Children / Young People and their families and significant others; consultation work advising staff of other disciplines on the psychological aspects of casework. It involves conducting psychological assessmentsand the delivery of appropriate therapeutic interventions for the full range of referred difficulties accepted by the Service.To provide teaching, training and supervision of the psychological work of psychologists and of staff of other disciplines.To conduct and supervise research and audit, and to develop and evaluate new clinical and psychological programmes, as a major responsibility of the job. To participate in relevant research/audit groups, as required by the Family and Therapies Division.To contribute to the development of new psychological services and participate in the Paediatric Clinical Psychology Service and Paediatric ARFID Service planning and development and advise the Head of Child and Family Psychology and Therapies Service and Paediatric ARFID Service.
