Job summary
We are recruiting for a full time, LAS Specialty Registrar in General Surgery to work within the General Surgery Unit at the Royal Berkshire Hospital under supervision of the General Surgery consultants.
This is a fixed term post for 12 months.

Main duties of the job
The post will provide generous experience of emergency and elective procedures. It is an excellent opportunity for a candidate aspiring to a career in General Surgery. The General Surgical Unit operates a ward-based system and you will be working as part of a team of junior doctors and consultants looking after emergency and elective admissions on GSU and SAU wards. There will be opportunities to attend general surgery outpatients and endoscopy training for suitable candidates.

Whilst not formal training posts these jobs are either generated from gaps in the training programmes or established trust posts. The Trust is committed to the educational development of medical staff within this programme. Candidates will be assigned an educational supervisor.
Candidates will have access to study leave and the opportunity to undertake/participate in one or more of the following:
QIPP Medical teaching roles including simulation Research (where offered) Dedicated FY3 teaching programme and journal clubs Exposure to clinics / procedures EWTD and New Deal compliant Rotas Procedural skills such as Thoracic USS, Echo Medical Education course with the University of Reading (PG Cert Ed)

Full registration with GMC MRCS or equivalent

Experience in surgery at SpR level Demonstration of experience in general surgery NHS experience Ability to offer clinical opinion on a range of problems in general surgery Ability to take responsibility for clinical care of patients with surgical conditions

Evidence of good written and verbal communication skills
