Job summary

Senior Occupational Therapist - Band 6

We are seeking a motivated & experienced Senior Occupational Therapist to join our Community Mental Health Team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a supportive multidisciplinary service, delivering high-quality, person-centred care across a diverse patient group.

In this role, you will manage a varied clinical caseload, including individuals with dementia & complex mental health needs, applying your specialist occupational therapy skills to support recovery, independence & wellbeing.

You will play a key role within the team, contributing expert knowledge to multidisciplinary care planning, while also supporting the development of colleagues & students through supervision & practice placement education.

The post holder will be responsible for:

Delivering evidence-based occupational therapy interventions within a community mental health setting Managing a complex caseload, ensuring safe, effective & outcome-focused care Contributing specialist clinical expertise within a multidisciplinary team environment Supporting service delivery through involvement in team administration, quality improvement & service development initiatives

This role is ideal for an Occupational Therapist who is passionate about innovative practice, collaborative working & continuous service improvement.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

Manage & prioritise their own clinical workload in line with the changing needs of the team & service Undertake initial assessments (standardised & non-standardised) as appropriate to the service Complete further assessments & deliver interventions based on identified need Analyse complex information & use clinical judgement to plan appropriate interventions & expected outcomes Plan & implement specialist, person-centred interventions, working in partnership with service users, carers & the wider multidisciplinary team Monitor & evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, adapting care plans as required Maintain accurate & comprehensive clinical records in line with quality & professional standards Act as Duty Worker when rostered, including triaging referrals, coordinating the shift & acting as a key point of contact for the team Contribute to the planning of continuing care where required Undertake the role of Care Coordinator in line with service deman Closing Date: 1st June 2026 (Midnight)Shortlisting Date: 2nd June 2026Interview Date: 16th June 2026

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Degree or equivalent pre-registration award in Occupational Therapy. State registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.

Experience Essential

Post registration experience of working with service users in hospital and/or community settings. Experience of working with older people with a range of mental health problems.

Knowledge Essential

Government NHS policies and guidelines relating to older peoples' mental health service. Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.

Skills Essential

Effectively utilize a wide range of specialist therapeutic skills to provide treatment interventions, both through individual and group settings. Able to assess, monitor and review treatment plans, considering the complex, serious and changing needs of individuals.
