Process Engineer – Welding & Additive Manufacturing The Process Engineering department within Research Centre Trollhättan is now looking for more process engineers with focus on welding and additive manufacturing. The Research Centre is a part of the GKN Global Research and Technology organization at GKN Aerospace and currently we are 75 employees. We are located at GKN Aerospace Engine System site in Trollhättan and we have our laboratory at Innovatum. Process Engineering has the responsibility to develop advanced manufacturing processes for future generations of aero engines. The current department focus areas are: Free form additive manufacturing Laser welding Machining Inspection all with focus on automation. For more than a decade GKN has developed free form additive technology capability robot-laser-wire. We work closely together with the design department and simulations department within R&T to provide complete product solutions. We also have continuous cooperation with the core engineering and production organizations, for technology insertion in production. The work is organized in technology projects where we develop new product concepts and implement new processes in production. The department have about 20 employees with a strong ambition to grow. The department of Process Engineering now has an open position for a process engineer with focus on laser additive process development. The role will focus to develop the laser welding and free form deposition with wire process towards engine product application, and also operate the equipment in our research lab at Innovatum in Trollhättan. Further on, a development step is to integrate the process into the digital integrated factory. You are an engineer with a competence profile in metallic material and processes and is interested in working practically with equipment and process development. The role also involves close collaboration with researchers and research organizations within the field of new materials and additive process. Key Responsibilities We want to strengthen our team with a Process Engineer with preference for application driven process development, with metallurgical knowledge, with an interest for develop the process into the digitalization world. Typical responsibilities: Drive technology development projects within R&T Perform testing in the material lab and perform material investigations Perform test and be part of running our R&T weld/additive equipment Document and present results in Technology Readiness Reviews Communicate and present plans and results internally as well as externally with our partners Contribute with creativity and support colleagues in our technology teams, with the future possibility to take on leader roles with R&T Participate in, and by time, lead research programs in corporation with Universities The work is performed jointly with your team colleagues, through internal technology development projects and in research projects often done in bilateral or multilateral collaboration with our GKN colleagues, industry and academic partners and customers. Qualifications / Experience / Skills You are an engineer with a Master’s degree or Ph D in in Process and Material Engineering with experience of welding process development You have experience in direct energy deposition Additive Manufacturing processes from part design through deposition and inspection Experience with Additive Manufacturing software such as slicers for tool path and process control software is meritorious Experience with technology development and maturation within the Aerospace industry, including advancement through Technology Readiness Levels is meritorious. You have experience from metallurgical examinations including using metallurgical lab equipment to investigate, especially titanium materials is meritorious You have a desire for team work You have an ambition to drive technology projects You have an interest in digitalization and automation.
