Job SummaryAbout the Position: This position is located at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital at Fort Campbell, Tennessee. QualificationsWho May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Selective Placement Factor: Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologist (AMT) or other board or registry deemed comparable by Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (OASD(HA)) or their designee as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT); Medical Technologist (MT); or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) is required. (You must upload Certification) And Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing a variety of tests and exams in a medical laboratory; collecting a variety of bodily fluids to include blood, urine, and serum; and maintaining medical information within an automated system. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06) or in a civilian hospital laboratory setting. OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, or Microbiology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Major DutiesPerforming a variety of immune hematology tests and examination in the blood bank to include blood typing, cross, matching antibody, detection, identification, and other specialized blood bank confirmation tests.Recognizes an identifies unusual results to include conditions of test performance reaction systems, and test procedures.Performs anybody studies with one or more red cell panels, illusion techniques, and refers results to the supervisor for review of further studies.Receive and store blood components in accordance with established procedures and directives.Performs dilutions accurately, and in order to use them.Performs a wide variety of hematology and coagulation testing work that involves the use of complex, automated instrumentation and cell interpretation that uses microscopic techniques.Perform tests on biological fluids such as whole blood, serum, urine, cerebrospinal fluid, and other body fluids.
