About this role
Job Title: Forklift OperatorJob DescriptionThis role operates a forklift to move, stage, load, unload, and organize materials throughout a busy warehouse environment while also performing hands-on material handling, repacking, sorting, and kitting tasks. You support both inbound and outbound logistics, helping prepare materials for transportation to customer and project locations and assisting with freight coming through the Charleston logistics operation. You work closely with a small warehouse team, contribute to maintaining clean and organized staging and storage areas, and consistently follow established safety practices when operating powered equipment and handling materials.
Responsibilities
- Operate a forklift safely to move, stage, load, unload, and relocate materials throughout the warehouse.
- Prepare materials for outbound transportation and delivery to customer and project locations, including staging and organizing shipments.
- Assist with inbound materials flowing through the Charleston logistics operation that supports drayage from the Port of Charleston, warehousing, and outbound logistics.
- Perform hands-on material handling tasks such as repacking, kitting, sorting, and organizing materials when not operating the forklift.
- Support material kitting and warehousing services specific to the Charleston operation, ensuring materials are prepared correctly for project use.
- Maintain organized material staging and storage areas, helping to keep the warehouse clean and orderly.
- Follow warehouse organization standards and safety procedures while handling potentially large or project-specific materials.
- Work as part of a small warehouse team, willingly assisting wherever needed rather than focusing solely on forklift operation.
- Demonstrate dependable attendance and reliability to support daily operations in a small-team environment.
- Contribute to a culture of safety, reliability, organization, and teamwork in day-to-day warehouse activities.
Essential Skills
- Previous experience safely operating a forklift in a warehouse or materials-handling environment strongly preferred.
- Comfort working in a role that alternates between forklift operation and physical material handling, rather than remaining on a forklift all day.
- Ability to load, unload, stage, organize, and relocate materials throughout the warehouse.
- Comfort performing repacking, kitting, sorting, and preparing materials for shipment or project use.
- Ability to follow warehouse organization guidelines and safety procedures when working with large or project-specific materials.
- Dependable attendance and strong reliability, especially important in a small team setting.
- Comfort performing physical warehouse work in addition to forklift operation.
- Ability to work a full MondayFriday schedule consistently.
- Safety-conscious mindset and ability to work around forklift traffic, freight, and warehouse equipment.
- Team-oriented attitude with willingness to cross-train and assist with different warehouse functions.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Previous warehouse, distribution, logistics, shipping and receiving, or material-handling experience is a strong fit.
- Ability to adapt to a small-team environment where everyone supports multiple warehouse responsibilities.
- Strong sense of organization and attention to detail when staging, storing, and preparing materials.
- Willingness to learn and understand the broader logistics process from incoming freight through material preparation and outbound delivery.
- Reliability and good attendance, with an understanding of the impact on daily operations in a small team.
Why Work Here? Employees enjoy a steady first-shift schedule, Monday through Friday, allowing evenings and weekends free under the current schedule. The warehouse is clean, and the role offers the chance to join a growing Charleston operation that supports utility and infrastructure projects across the Southeast. The smaller team environment provides a tight-knit atmosphere where you can learn multiple functions and gain exposure to the full logistics process, from incoming freight through material preparation and outbound delivery.
Work EnvironmentThe role is based in a clean, non-climate-controlled warehouse, so employees need to be comfortable working through Charleston heat and seasonal temperature changes. Work hours follow a consistent MondayFriday, first-shift schedule. The environment is a small-team setting where everyone contributes to multiple warehouse responsibilities, combining forklift operation with physical material handling and repacking rather than exclusively seated forklift work. Daily activities center on materials management, material kitting, warehousing, and outbound logistics, with reliability, safety, organization, and teamwork playing a critical role in the day-to-day work.
